Title: Into The Light [walkthrough will be corrected soon]
Post by: Etcher Squared Games on Wed 31/08/2005 13:18:44
Etcher Squared Games is now (finally) releasing its 2nd game:
Into The Light

Everything you need (screen shots, download, walkthrough) is at the Into The Light Website (http://www.etcher2games.com/itl/)[/b]

I just thought perhaps a synopsis of the game would be great on the webpage too, I'll get to adding that later tonight....

But in the mean time....
Tim is a professor at a local university.Ã,  He gets lost while heading to lunch one day and accidentally witnesses a murder.Ã,  He gets knocked out by the murderer and kidnapped.

You must help Tim escape to freedom.Ã,  (This is a one room game).

There is one small catch.Ã,  Tim is blind.Ã,  You really do not have visuals to work with.Ã,  You need to use the help of your other senses to get out.

[disclaimer]
This game was an experiment for me.Ã,  I DO NOT expect this game to be for everyone.Ã,  The graphics are sparse (being that it's first person from Tim's perspective).Ã,  I was trying a new style of game play.Ã,  So, if you play it and just don't like it, I will understand and not be insulted.
[/disclaimer]

Ok, geocities is apparently giving me fits.
I'm at work currently and can't do much right now, but I'm going to try to use 50megs when I get home and if that doesn't work, I've had an offer for someone to host my game (thanks)

I'll bump thread when that is working again.

Sorry for those who've tried to d/l it.

[edit edit]
New host that I pay for (not much, but I have 2500 mb and no max file size)

I think you should get rid of the lousy Geocities. Try www.50megs.com ?

You know, the problem isn't Geocities. TWICE now I've managed to download the game, once with GetRight once without. The problem is a totally different one... either you've uploaded a corrupt file or it got corrupt during uploading. I can get what's there, and indeed got it twice now, but what's there is no good.

I haven't had time to finish the game yet, but I loved the concept and innovation behind this title.  I had been watching it since it first appeared in the In Production thread.  So here's a mirror for the game, incase you have any more server trouble.  Let me know if you don't think you'll need it:

[edit]NOT NECESSARY'D!!![/edit]

Good work!

I think you did such a great job of perceiving the atmosphere of a blind person. The way the objects fade in and then colored, was genius. I loved how you used braille when selecting the actions from the top menu. I also found the senses to be fun when compared to just "looking", like in other adventure games.

Nit picky stuff:
The one thing I noticed right away was that you could pick things up without even knowing what they were. I think it would have been better if the person had to touch an object before picking it up.
I also find it quite odd to have the blind person licking everything. I'm not too sure this is what a blind person would actually do.

Overall, I have really enjoyed your game. Looking forward to the next installment.

This is very nice! Very different from your average adventure game. Very nice sound effects and animation, and music is fitting too. I also love the scripting, the way objects appear when you hover mouse near them.

But I am desperately stuck.

Spoiler
I can't figure out how to open the lock on the toolbox. I've tried listening to clicks, then turning the lock to other direction etc. etc. with no luck. I'd appreciate a small hint, thank you.

Very nice job overall, I can't wait to get further. Btw. is there a way to save game?

The website on the first posting has a walkthrough.

The walkthrough has a few minor flaws since I was typing to fast to get it done in time. I'll get those corrected soon.

I considered the game short enough to not warrant a save/load feature.Ã,  But this is the 2nd time it's been mentioned to me.Ã,  I might put a back door way to do it tonight.Ã,  Ã,  I'll get to it later today.

It's a fast game (took me about 25 minutes to finish, but only because i've played the demo), but save/load would probably be really helpful for people who are miserably stuck.

Just something to mentioned [I think it was mentionted in the demo thread] some of the senses had one-use things; although they gave possible hints as to what something is, some weren't really NECESSARY until a single point in the game. It's good that you had responses for a lot of stuff with said senses though. Same qualm about the walking stick. I know it's hard to really have multiple uses for those things in such a short game, but something to keep in mind.

Kudos on the walking stick by the way; i noticed it made noises (albiet really quiet sometimes) when you tapped everything with it. I'm looking forward to anything else you're coming up with.

This all has to do with why I wasn't 100% happy with the game.Ã,  I wish I had given more uses to the senses.Ã,

But for the person who asked, yes there is the intent for part 2 to this game at some point in the future.

UPDATE:Ã,  I've added the default load/save option to the game.
F5 for save
F7 for load
There'll be no GUI for it, you'll just have to know the buttons to push.

There is a (very short) readme.txt in with a reminder to this...

Made a small bug fix
Spoiler

All know references to "mirror" are gone and it is now fully refered to as "window".

Also, just curious for those who have played...
Spoiler

Anyone found the secret behind the plant?Ã,  It's not hard or that special, but it's the only lead in I have in this game for part 2....

How many digits the locker code has? I've spinned it left and right so many times, that I'm beggining to think I'm getting it wrong somehow.
I'm spinning it until I hear a unlocking sound. I'm also trying to open it each time (That's how desperate I am!  ;) ).

I really hate to be a stickler here, but you should read the forum rules...

3. DO NOT ask for hints for a game in its release thread. There is a separate forum for that purpose. Release threads are for comments and criticism only.

That and I've already mentioned that the website (link in first post) has a walkthrough.

I have followed your walkthorugh. Yet, I'm not able to open the box. Guess I'm just exta-stupid!  ;D

Great game, Worm. The interface is really innovative and interesting. A true "feel-and-click" adventure!  ;)

Cheers,
Stefano

EDIT: I finally mananged to open the box.

That was an amazingly novel concept for an adventure game, and the execution was great too, the way the items don't stay. Absolutely great. The only thing I can say is, the way you finally escape is a little weak. It's... far fetched, that that would work. (Trying not to give anything away.) Other then that, the puzzles were all logical and well done. I really liked

the lock puzzle, had me trying to remember how to open my high school locker
