Title: ISN: Kill!
Post by: Harvester on Fri 31/10/2003 23:22:46
It's finally there! My first game! Actually, not first, it's third, but I don't count the previous two.
Anyway, it's about a Scotland Yard inspector who has to find a beautiful ring lost by a girl. Don't let the lame idea put you off. The lack of quality should put you off, mwahahahaah!!!
The game is pretty short, about as an average RON game. The style of graphics is similar, too. Only the puzzles are a bit weirder.

Beware, the link is case sensitive.

How the heck do i get the hook off the coathanger?

I love the humor in this game  ;D

The graphics should be less blurry though and the cursor icons are so small and unclear that I had to use the icon bar. That's what you should improve in your next games. And you must make more games!

Arthphreak:
Spoiler
You need to use it on something very solid.

Maybe you should look at the walls for inspiration

Now I need a little help for my own:
Spoiler
can't get the cow from the bat for the plant nor open the trap door

For Nostradamus:
Yes, well, I think EVERYONE ho has played the game complained about the small icons, so I won't use them again :-)
As for hints...

Spoiler

Those two problems are related. You have to solve the trapdoor puzzle first. Explore the kitchen REALLY REALLY carefully

Here's another hint:

Spoiler

You have to use the wire to tie the hook to something else.

What something else?? I've tried everything with everything and nothing works!

I also found some bugs:

When you have shot the bat and interact with the window the game crashes (character not in room)
If you go outside after you got rid of the plant you cant enter again
Title: Re:ISN: Kill!
Post by: Harvester on Sun 02/11/2003 19:44:38
Thanks for reporting those bugs. If I ever do another version, I'll fix them. But... you don't need to interact with the window after shooting the bat and you don't need to leave the house after getting rid of the plant. Now, a more straight-forward hint.

Spoiler

Remember that lamp in the room with the mirror? Interact with it.

Hey, man, I have the same bug, my only save game is outside the house, I killed the plant, and now I have no turning back, I can't get the ring for the lady

I WILL SUE YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY FOR THIS!111!11!!!!one!1!

Well, I guess you'll have to start again.
MWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, tell me exactly in which room does the game crash.

Well, that's ... er ... quotable. I await your next article on game design with trepidation. :P

Also, the cat seems to depend upon the order either of events or rooms entered, I'm not sure. Anyway, the game freezes if right-clicked during the second cat sequence.

Otherwise, nice surrealism.:)

Spoiler

I scared the bat with the slingshot, and got the cow outside, I fed the plant with teh cow, and dissappeared, searched the couple of rooms there, got out of the house and never could get back in, since the door is lock-proof, rock-proof, bomb-proof, and everything else you can if of-proof, and the brilliant protagonist threw the key away, since he never needed again.

OK, here's the hint for Nostradamus:

Spoiler

You have the mouse, now you have to catch the cat. You have the cat poison and the mouse. Think... And the slingshot is under the trapdoor.

As for the plant/locked door bug, I'll check it out, but it definitely wasn't there before.
No, wait, on second thought, I'll blame it on AGS  ;D

I, also, have been foiled in my quest by the locked door bug.
I was enjoying the game immensely.
Lots of great interactions!
Is there a good ending?
Is it worth starting again?

Steve

Edit:
Very nice game.
There is a good ending.
It was worth starting again.
But you should really fix that bug!

For those who are complaining about bugs: Thanks for the report, I will fix the bug(s).

For those who can't download the game: The URL is case sensitive. ISN is in caps. Why is it that way? I don't know, ask Tripod.

Hmmmmm... I don't know what the problem can be, except that the URL is case sensitive. Try to type it manually into the address bar and pay attention to type ISN in caps.
Or you can wait a few days for the new version. I have a major bug to fix.

heh, you've got some great humor.

Keep up the great work in future ISN games...

NOTE TO EVERYONE ELSE WITH THE SMALL ICONS PROBLEM:
Try switching the resolution to 640x400. The game was meant for it, though it doesn't say in the readme (tsk tsk!!). You can see them perfectly then...unless you've got a small monitor.

Title: Re:ISN: Kill!
Post by: Harvester on Mon 10/11/2003 21:01:54
Correction: I have TWO major bugs to fix  :)
And I have to add a small readme file that will inform the people that the game is made for 640x400. I simply can't believe that anyone managed to survive the entire game in low resolution.  :o

Snakey, thanks for the compliment and support!  8)
I already have a nice idea for ISN 2 and also a good background artist, so the game will definitely be longer and better. 8)
But anyway, let's fix those bugs. I'll try to do that tomorrow or something.

I think the game is kind of primitive, but it is funny
maybe you could improve your graphics a little.
I played and i only move from the principal screen to the
scene of the house. And at the starting screen i had problems
trying to start the game, maybe you could improve that too.

Anyway, hurry with the second one. Just don'y hurry the humor, or force it...if you're stuck on a hotspot that should have a wacky responce and you can't think of anything, you'll think of it later, don't try to force it ;) There's a couple cents for ye...

Hey may be referring to the fact that the game starts with the cursor on "look" mode without giving any indication, so when you click on buttons it says things like "Error #3095023795" and "This is a button!" which are not explained.  The first time I played, that confused me as well, since most starting screens only have one cursor mode.

It was fun how you got the stuff going on IRL, like Bush and Saddam :P

But you should NEVER do any favors, because, come on.. What's in for the player? :P

Nice art though. Dark, noir-pretty stuff :)

Hmm.. About the cheese stuff, you could've added something funny about the cheese before he left.

Hmm... Also, you didn't scare the player. At least not me. So we'll dare to play it... Ok... Just coming with tips :)

Btw.. After the intro, the backgrounds seemed bolder. What went wrong??! I liked the intro background!!11

That open-up-your-damn-own door thingy was fun :)

Well, you may THINK you were not scared, but actually that game has affected your subconscious(ness?) and you'll have severe psychological problems from playing it.

It's simple - I HATE drawing on computer. The first backgrounds were that one and the cat poison screen, after that I just quickly drew the stuff so I can finish the game.
