John Harris and the Treasure of the Pharaoh
Original title: John Harris és a Fáraó Kincse

Hello everybody,

I would like to share my first completed adventure game with you :)

Story:

In the game, we can take the role of John Harris, an archeologist from Arizona. He travel to Egypt, to investigate an ancient pyramid. But first, he should get there somehow, because the bus dropped him somewhere else... The rest of the story is up to you to discover :)

Lenght, puzzles:

The game itself is not so long, contains about 25 rooms.
Some puzzles are hard to solve, so you will probably stuck here and there :)
As I said, this is my first game, so please don't kill me if some puzzles are too mean :)
(Don't worry, none of the puzzles are impossible, my testers could solve everything with some thinking)

Screenshots:

Additional notes:

The game's original language is hungarian. I spent several hours with the translation and I managed to finish it today. But I'm not an expert. To be exact, this is my first game translation, so I'm sure I left some mistakes. I deeply apologize if you face with translational faults. But I hope the overall gameplay will be as "good" as in the original language version ;)

The game is also avaiable in the AGS Games page, here.

If you meant the state Arizona, then change the spelling in the game.
Arisona to Arizona
I am downloading now. I look forward to playing it.

How kind you are. You have a wonderful style when you report bugs :)
Thank you anyway, I will fix that word in the intro!

Grim

Oh no, not John Harris!!! It's the name of my landlord... I hate that guy! Can't you just change it to Harrison Ford? I think that's probably what you meant anyway... ;)

TomatoesInTheHead

Nice game!

I finished it, but so far only once (as there seem to be several endings, not counting deaths).

A nice diversity of puzzles, and I liked how the story unfolded bit by bit.

There was one particular puzzle I'd classify as kind of a pixel hunt though:
Spoiler
Searching the skeleton, I must have clicked on all but one rag, and thought they would all give the same answer
[close]
Also, in the opposite room I think it would have helped if
Spoiler
the floor was a hotspot, looking at which would say something about the pattern. I didn't notice it since I died when I walked to the left, and thought that the warning just referred to the other side of the room as the dark side, and that the sole purpose of the room was to be a trap for people who didn't read the sign...
[close]

And finally on question: Does it make a difference in the outcome if you
Spoiler
get a date with Rebekkah (I forgot how exactly her name is spelled) for the next day?
[close]

Anyway, nice game, and I'll try to get to the other ending(s) too.
Hope you plan to make some more games in the future! :)

Thank you for your feedback!

About spoiler 1 and 2: since there aren't too many accessible rooms in the game, I meant to make relatively "difficult" puzzles. To be exact, one of the puzzle you mentioned is take place in only one accessible room! And the other puzzle... Yes, that one is not so obvious.... but thanks to autosave, players has the ability to try out different things if they feel stucked. I think thats not a problem if the player stuck for a while here and there, because it's not an unusual thing in adventure games. But I do not want my players to stuck too long, or stuck forever  :-\ I won't change anything in the puzzles yet, because most of the players could solve all the puzzles in the hungarian version, and I'm afraid if I give more hints at a specific puzzle, that will became too easy :/ But if more and more people will complain about illogical and hard puzzles, I will change the necessary things. However, I finished the game about 1 months ago, so I'm not happy to jump into the resources again  ::)

About spoiler 3:
Spoiler
No, it doesn't make any difference in the outcome. That part was intented to be an "easter egg", and I'm very glad to see you've discovered! ;-)
[close]

Some spoiler about endings:
There are 2 extra endings, but they are connected to a very illogical puzzle. That's because the 2 extra endings are intented to be more like "easter eggs", than real puzzles. Therefore, I think it's okay if I give a small tip for that part:
Spoiler
some water could be useful inside the pyramid

I'm really happy if you enjoyed the game :) Probably I will make more games, but now I must take some break ;D

By the way, I must confess that this game was made in 3 weeks  :D
(I didn't sleep too much that time, of course ;D)

What a coincidence ;D
Btw, I wanted to create a somehow "individual" character, but it's hard to NOT be Harrison Ford ;D
Anyway, I didn't emphasize the name because I wanted to make a filmstar :D I put the name to the title just because I planned to make more games with this character :) However, I don't know what the future brings, it depends on what people think about this game.

Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

shirt

completed it and i think it was a pretty fun game overall as the puzzles were not too easy or too hard. the translation actually made it seem funnier for me. multiple endings was a nice addition aswell.

RoliX

I've made walkthrough hints for those, who really can't solve the puzzles.
You can find the hints here.

dbuske

The walkthrough didn't help to find the keys.
I could find it nowhere.
What if your blessings come through raindrops
What if your healing comes through tears...

RoliX

Some pixel hunting... :) The walkthrough defined which room is the key in, and where to search. I thought its far enough help, but there is some more spoiler:

Spoiler
As the walkthrough hints says, go to the place where the 2 merchants sitting on their carpets. Search the key in the sand. Depending on what kind of monitor you have, it can be hard to find the yellow key in the yellow sand. You sould try to pixel hunt in the middle-right part of the sand.
[close]

Sorry for that puzzle if you feel too hard, but it was intented to be a "needle in the haystack" searching :)

Well, I too have a problem with finding the key, can provide screenshot?

I May Not Be Perfect but I Have A Big Heart ..

RoliX

Here you go:

Spoiler

It can't be seen with a half eye ;D But it's interesting that most of people find it without any question and others can't find even if they read where it is :) Anyway, I extended the walktrough hints with the screenshot of the key, so let's hope nobody will stuck there anymore :P

Everything works fine without the setup and you can't change too much things in this game. But if you love to play around with the winsetups, I can upload it to you :)

dbuske

It may be that LCD's may have a problem with seeing the yellow key on the color of the sand.
I have a high definition LCD.
Even looking at the picture of the key then immediately trying to click on the unseen key,
results in not finding it.
It is a good idea to enlarge the key hotspot to help people who can't see it.
I did try to set the brightness of my LCD up and down and the key still doesn't show.
Doesn't a message show up if the cursor hit's it???
Clicking everyway in the right area doesn't show up anything either.

Khris

Just to be clear, the key isn't there from the start, it won't appear until

Spoiler
the lady wants you to go looking for it.

RoliX

I use @overhotspot@ statusbar in the game, so you should see the word "key" in the bottom of the screen when your mouse is over the object. Also, the mouse cursor's color changes, when its over a hotspot. The problem must be what Khris said: you probably aren't at that point in the story.

Btw, I have a notebook with a "suck" LCD, and I hardly see the key. But some of my friends noticed the key immediately when they arrived to that screen(without any spoiler, or hints). I don't say everybody should find it in 2 seconds, because it takes minutes for most of people... But at that point you know very well that you should search an item, and there aren't too many places to go. So it isn't impossible :)

dbuske

Oh, okay I will start the game and keep trying to get to the right point.
