You're forgiven this time. But when I'm two years late on the next game, don't let it happen again!  ;)

It's been a while since I've played any of the Barn Runner games, and when I finally got a chance to sit down and play this new chapter, I pretty much kept going until I was done with it.

This series continues to impress me. The numerous and varied puzzles kept me interested and entertained, and I got many a chuckle out of the many jokes and references.

One thing that I really like about this series is the incredible level of detail in just about every facet of this game's universe. The way various places/people/things are described and the way they are connected to various other elements gives a really polished feel to everything. It doesn't at all feel like a jumble of futuristic elements and bland stereotypes thrown together and spiced up with a few overused jokes -- I know it's a cliched thing to say, but you can tell that a lot of heart went into the making of this series.

Thanks for bringing us yet another installment of Barn Runner, Ponch!

Thank you!  :D

I do indeed put a lot of work into tying this entire Barn Runner endeavor into a rich tapestry (or something). I'm glad you like it so much. Thanks for the kind words!

I specially made a proof-photo of my favorite and afterwards I found all the robots (which are related to a film) already listed by Ponch  - grmbl .
Well, not only this lovely little robo is well done, but I loved it in the film! Have you been inspired from this competitions poster or do you know all the robots?

The TV-show and the french-lessons  made me laugh and it was a real fun to play.
Sorrily I had to quit in a very early state of the game, but the long way in the underground is simply not my cup of tea. I think I am too much of a mouse-fetischist for this kind of play. One or two aereas in this style are okay for me, but there was always another one and so my endless failings near the end of the „Deep Blue“ made me give up on it.
I am sad about quitting, but sometimes living as a mouse-fetischist can be really hard , I am sorry!

If you dislike the arcade sequences, then just click the "Setup" button on the GUI at the top of the screen and switch "Arcade Mode" to "off". The game will skip all the arcades and mazes, leaving you only the adventure game stuff to play. You can do this at any point in the game and you don't have to start a new game. Just go back to a saved point prior to the arcade and pick up from there with the arcades off.

And thanks for the link to the robot group shot. I wished that had been around when I started this series. Until now, I've had to plumb the depths of my video collection to find robots to use in the games.

Anyhoo, I hope you'll switch the arcades off and give the game another spin.

Thanks for playing!  :D

These are great news!
Sure I will give it another try now â€" thank you very much for explaining this great option to me!

Thanks! Part four will indeed make the December deadline. The trick part will be getting chapter 5 out on time. It's proving to be more work than I had anticipated.  :P

It's unbelievable, but (thanks to the extra-time I got offered because of the database-error) finally I was able to manage this one, too (and thanks to the big hint of TomatosInTheHead over here I was able to post this)
- All this work in graphic, dialogs, music, ... and the uncountable fine details must have needed a plethora of time! Those dialogs are splendid and beside the nice puzzles it's half the fun of it. The music fits well to the scenes (I liked the truckstop-music best, but the others were well chosen, too â€" like „Maybe“ for the hermit) and  giving players like me the possibility to switch the arcade mode off is gorgeous.

Thank you very much for this game and this option! It was my only chance to go on with this wonderful game!

It's very recommended to play for everyone because (thanks to wise Ponch) it's not only fun for males to play and watch it.
This „guy in the grey pyjama“ ~ ooohlala

For several reasons I would like to end with a quote from the game:
„I am looking forward to getting to know you bettter.“   ;)

Ponch

Thanks, Tabata. I'm glad to see you stuck with it and beat the game.  :D

The Great Underground Empire

Thank you so much for this game, Ponch!  It's full of awesomey goodness!  Is there any chance a walkthrough will be released soon?   Because I am very stuck. :)

Spoiler
I've got the rat poison, but can't figure out how to kill the rats with it, since I don't know how to make it stronger.

I've got the cheeseburger, but Elvis wants a Long Haul, and I don't remember what that is, and no one can tell me. :)

Out of curiosity, was there something else I could do with the racing chicken besides return it to the cow?

Boom! Walkthrough!

I'm glad you're liking the game! And to answer your question:
Spoiler
Normally, chickens make for good eating. But Lightning is Hilde's special friend. As such, all you can do is turn him in for the reward. But don't look at him as an inventory item with limited use, look at him as a little lost bird who needs someone to get him home safely. And that should be reward enough. That and the fistful of money, of course.  :)

Thanks for playing!  :D

Khris

Oh, btw, could you give us a list of the music you've used?
There were already several songs I knew but couldn't for the life of me remember where form, for instance the one in the water cave. Driving me nuts :)

That's also where I'm helplessly stuck for now, until I can bring myself to go through the whole cave yet again until dying at the hard part what must be near the end :)

Ponch

The music used during the underground lake is a spooky remix of "Kraid's Lair" from Metroid. It's been on my hard drive for years and I can't remember where I found it.

As far a listing of all the tracks, maybe I'll do that and put it up on my site one of these days. But it would take a long time. There are almost 70 tracks in 5-3 alone!

Anyhoo, glad you're enjoying the game. I sent you a PM with some useful info about the water maze. Hope that helps.  :)
