After taking a break on AGS, I decided to finally push myself and make a game once again. This time via the MAGS competition!
I present to you:
THE LURKING HORROR
This games influence and inspiration originated from the old 1979 movie, 'Phantasm'

You are Mike, your brother has just run off to follow up on a lead about his missing friend at the local cemetery. If the rumors prove true about the place, your brother is in mortal danger and so are you!
http://www.mediafire.com/?5cemzr8a5zuwm4w a 4.19MB download size
The game has multiple endings and should provide some replay value with multiple dialogue and solutions.
WARNING: GAME CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE AND GORE........download at your own risk :=
Pro Tip: You can LEFT click AND RIGHT click on inventory items.
Enjoy!
Can you die in game? Because I don't like when i die...

Yes there is one instances when you can.
Gratz on releasing this maggie Diath :)
Really nice, loved the animations.
The one at the end is marvelous.
And it always cool to see a technical thread come to life as part of an actual game :)
When I first spotted this, I thought: Finally, somebody redid the Infocom version :P
But your game was fun too :)
Edit: Forgot to mention that I liked the animation work as well. And finally, a convincing reason to be trapped in a room. Well done!
Finished this like in 5 mins and didn't died ;D Though I was saving like crazy.
Spoiler
Well, I used gun just when I saw something moving. Also faceless man...well played I guess, though after Chzo mythos it is becoming a bit stale.
Nice job in overall, but it was way too short...
So, anyone has found all the 3 endings yet?
Okay, so I'm curious why you didn't just call this Phantasm since 95% of the story and plot come from that movie, including most of the character names. When you've got Mike, Reggie, the tall man, the midgets, why did you change Jody's name to Ben? In fact, I was half-expecting you to use Mike's locked door solution from the movie (taping a shotgun shell to a hammer and banging it against the door). Overall it's an interesting game, but not calling it Phantasm or stating where you heavily borrowed from for it is a bit dishonest.
Thanks for all the comments.

I just looked up that game on Wikipedia seems fairly interesting! I need to start actually looking up titles to see if they are taken since Dead Silence was obviously a movie name a couple of years ago as well.
QuoteNice job in overall, but it was way too short...
Yeah it is pretty short which is why I decided to put the possibility of dying at least once in there.
QuoteOverall it's an interesting game, but not calling it Phantasm or stating where you heavily borrowed from for it is a bit dishonest.
Yeah sorry...this wasn't really anything I was trying to hide. I put this game as a fan game in the AGS database and I figured if people have seen the movie then they would know. But regardless, ill re-edit the entry and tell where the game was influenced from.
Could someone upload a mirror for this? Mediafire doesn't work for me today..
EDIT: Now it works again, weird :P
EDIT2: Apparantly it still doesn´t work.. It downloaded an empty file.. yay..
Grab it here (http://shutupload.com/dl/f57e40bd9305/) (shutupload.com)
Thanks Arj0n :D
EDIT:
Played through it. Nice little game :) Very eerie atmosphere.
I've only found two endings though, and that's if I count
Spoiler
the death. Does that count?
The animation at the end makes the game, in my opinion. ;D

Yes that does count as one of the endings. The third is more of an Easter egg if anything else.
Now I'm curious as to how to get the third...
I really liked this one for a short game. I could see how Phantasm could make a great full-length adventure game now. Now I got to find the other endings.
QuoteBut regardless, ill re-edit the entry and tell where the game was influenced from.
Fair enough. I wasn't knocking you or anything, but as a fan of the film and as someone who has met Reggie Bannister I thought it only fair that people know about the source material. Afterall, if they like your game they should see the movie that inspired it! :)
Nice game!
The final scene was genuinely frightening. :D
Hmmm, a third ending?
Is it
Spoiler
the fact you can use the shovel on the rock to retrieve the key of the mortuary?

Nope.

WHAT? I didn't even think about that.
Spoiler
I just went all smashy smashy
QuoteNow I'm curious as to how to get the third...
I didn't really want to reveal the joke ending all too early but I'll provide some clues.
Spoiler
1. Since its a joke ending you may want to keep that term in mind.
2. Once you know what your possibly up against, only then can you go on a mind numbing terribly implemented pixel hunt.(lucky for you that it is hidden close by).
But honestly I dont think many people will find it that funny besides a few of my RL friends ;D
Now that its been out for a bit, out of curiosity has anyone unlocked the third ending?
Spoiler
Or should I say the Hamburglar ending
I found it and I also managed to crash the game. Room 8 line 109, Cannot run this command since there is a NewRoom command already queued to run - the error message says. It popped after
Spoiler
the Hamburglar ran in and Mike yelled "NOOOOOOOO".
And by the way, you (and ProgZ) made me watch the movie. I guess I'm a fan now.
Quotemanaged to crash the game. Room 8 line 109
That is really weird, I haven't been able to recreate the crash. Have you tried it again since?
QuoteAnd by the way, you (and ProgZ) made me watch the movie. I guess I'm a fan now.
Awesome! Thats good to hear! I believe all 4 movies are available on netflix instant stream now finally. Also on a side note I saw this on the internet the other day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VklhUhVC3ps
Phantasm for the Atari!!!
I tried it four times from the same saved game and the crash kept occurring.
Then I replayed the game from the very beginning without any crashes and I think I have a rough idea what happened.
Spoiler
The first time I *somehow* got two endings mixed up, ie I got into the room with Ben's (un)dead body and the normal bad ending cutscene started playing. I got the Tall Man emerging from the wall, and the brother waking up and speaking about mother and father. Then I got the easter egg ending immediately after that.. it seems that by something I had done before entering the morgue, I managed to trigger both endings at the same time and they overlapped each other.
I can upload my save game for you if that helps anything.
Forgive me for bumping up this game since the topic is a little old but Reloaded.Org decided to feature the game just in time for Halloween! ;D
it can be viewed here
http://www.reloaded.org/download/Lurking-Horror/520/
Hope you all had a good Halloween. ;D
How exactly do you get the hidden joke ending?
If my memory doesn't fail me...
Spoiler
Keep choosing the most absurd answers while talking with your brother. Then leave the room, go to the cemetery, go back to your room and look for a hidden item under the desk. Eat it and then play the game normally through to the end. This should get you the joke ending.
Thanks, managed to get the joke ending. Also managed to get the error where it shows the serious ending first, and then plays the joke ending.
Spoiler
To get both endings I entered the tomb through the front door. To get just the one ending I entered through basement window.
Sorry for taking forever to respond. That is indeed how you get the joke ending and also I finally was able to replicate the error. I found the script problem and updated the download links for future players.
