Title: MASTERS OF SOUND
Post by: Le Woltaire on Tue 27/04/2004 04:57:45
Hello,

I have finished a game and would like to post it. It is my first game and I worked a whole week on it.
It plays in the future in the year 105346 AD and is located in a futuristic music academy. One of the maestros there turned completely mad and built a gigantic tuning fork that is able to destroy the whole universe just by its sound.
You play a young student, who tries to defeat this guy.

It also contains some music played by me on the piano.

Download it here....(10 MB)

A brilliant first effort - the only thing I found annoying was not being able to speed text up..................am now completely stuck though
Spoiler
I've got to tuning fork and have bandages, empty syringe and instrument.  Have tried using and interracting with everything but nothing works.  If I walk to tuning fork I become stuck and can't move again.

I'd love to play your game but when I try to extract it I also get an error message saying that the file is corrupted.

I've tried it a few times and still get the same error message  ???

Hi,

I downloaded my file again and it seems to work with me. Perhaps its not a problem of the zip-file itself, perhaps it is the way how it was compressed.

I used WINACE to compress the file at "maximum zip compression" to make it as small as possible. The original file is about 20 MB large compressed to 5MB.

Perhaps your extracting utility has a problem with such a file.....don't know....that could explain why some people are able to extract it, other not.

The main idea of the game is really, really nice, though i think you could improve some of knollo's movements (kinda slow and boring). another boring factor is that you cant skip the dialogues (especially boring when you try to speak to tonalis in the library), which is understandable in the cutscenes when the music is synchronized with the action and dialogue. the music is very nice in the piano pieces, but i really dont like the rest (those two phrases in the map are really annoying).

Oh, and i am stuck:
Spoiler

i got the holy horn of resonance and it already absorbed a paranormal book and a pink bunny trap, now i dont know what to do! i got the horn, an empty syringe and the bandages...

Thank you Floko for playing my game and giving me your very constructive opinion.

Yes, perhaps I should have made it possible to skip some dialogues, and OK, the map music isn't very original, but on the other hand I improvised the whole music in one day. I was worried, that the file would become to big, for a proper distribution in the Internet, so I decided, do make these very small repeating phrases.

But now I won't change anything, perhaps I'm going to finish another game or something, hoping to improve my attempts next time.

Spoiler

Knollo needs to change the horn of resonance. When you look at it, he says, that the mouthpiece is too small for his lips, so you need to find another one.

If you already did that, you should be able to play the horn by looking at it. I hope this is going to help you a bit.Ã,  Ã, Ã,

Then you have to play the horn somehow in the laboratory.

Weird game.. I finally was able to beat it.

Two bugs I ran into.
Spoiler

When you're on the stairs after you got zapped back up by the tunning fork and you look at the horn and select the bunny tune it will cause AGS to crash. (see post by splat44 (same thing))
The other bug occurs when you are in the Trontius (sp) pupil's room and you look at the Horn of Resonance and there is no GUI to cancel or any chance to click on any tune.
I didn't double check these but I did hit them.

Check to see IF he left then go back to the temple. Also you might want to check your room for anything you may need

@Skio

You maybe missing the other spell. Talk to some people or try some objects on some people

@VAN_WOLTER
Spoiler
What was the reason for getting the bandaids???

Now on to what I thought of the game. Otherwise from a kinda quirky movement and such it was fun. It had an interesting permise and it GREATLY reminded me of LOOM by Lucasarts if anybody remembers that game. Also you might want somebody to spell/grammar check your work. ;) Just a suggestion... I saw tons of spelling mistakes... and Hallo is okay but really... Hello is the english form of it ;)

Ieremiou, Van Wolfer did repair bug and so far there are no use for bandage.

Van Wolfer, thank for fixing the bug. I just finish the game.

Hi Goot,

This is a problem that other persons had before you too.

If you try to play the horn of resonance you get a close up of the horn and there doesn't seem to be a possibility to leave the screen. But there is a small icon on the bottom left corner. If you click on that you can leave the horn screen.

Spoiler

However Knollo has to learn some tunes, before he can play the horn of resonance.....perhaps if you find some other objects....

I know... it's an old game.

But I added sound effects and some doltish voices to the game.
The game is now compiled with AGS 3.12 and some bugs were also deleted.
I added some hints to the plot at key positions to speed up thinking...(see changelog)

For those of you who liked it or have a collection it might be worth a redownload...
If you still find bugs, tell me...
If you think it's worth a full voice over with funny accents, let me know...

Have fun.

I just added grey outlines to the icons...

Hey Mods, yes 2004 was great for me aswell, but I hope that the best years will come in the future.

A new version of "Masters of Sound"? Yeeeees! \o/

I remember I enjoyed this game, but for some reason (which I don't know anymore) I couldn't finish it... So it'll be a good opportunity to start all over again.

Thank you, Le Woltaire!

Cool, the plot reminded me of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure!  8) ;D

Took about half an hour to complete - enjoyed the humour and especially some of the cut scenes - reminded me of Zak McKraken (always a good thing! ;D)
