These games that people are producing are just getting better and better.  Bernie, you clearly could be getting paid for your work.  Adventure game companies should take notice of a few of the developers here.  Awesome!

Very nice job.....Thoroughly enjoyed playing it and will try again to get a better ending.....Luck to you in your future games, you do have a great talent for this field...........

Thank you

Just finished playing this and I gotta say, as short as it is, it's a fun and atmospheric journey. As mentioned before, the puzzles aren't extremely difficult but nor are they too simplistic. The story leaves me with wanting a sequel for sure. Great job!

dartzor

Awesome game ;D

I found a small grammar issue that you might want to correct with the plastic bag when you hover the courser over it, you named it big plastic big instead of big plastic bag.

voh

Technically speaking that's a typo, not a grammar error ;)
Still here.

This game is just great, the story is interesting and I love that trust -thingie.
Hell, I wish I could get something like this done some day.

blueskirt

Simply wonderful. :o

Graphically speaking, musically speaking, and the story... This game goes straight on my list of games with the best endings ever.

Dear Sir

It is my pleasure to inform you, on behalf of the Vatican and Pope Jr., that your efforts in the field of amateur adventure game designing have not gone unnoticed. You understand, this is strictly unofficial, however, having made Cedric and the Revolution and Reactor 09, you need make ONLY[/u] eight more adventure games of equal or better quality before you shall be seriously considered for sainthood. We eagerly await your next most enjoyable work.

I am not a crook.

thewalrus

I still don't think that I have seen the best ending yet.....

Spoiler
I had 60% trust but I was taken back to prison. What happens in the best ending???

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!

"Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come!"

Bernie

Typos = bad! Must fix!

Thanks for the feedback! (I'm not sure if the pope would like a game featuring a homosexual semi-main character, though. :D)

The best ending requires 50% of trust or higher and all 3 newspaper articles. Once you have that, you get to play Matt after the 'normal' ending.

Great work. The trust mechanic was wonderful, the puzzles were original and entertaining, especially the pipe-scanner, and the plot kept moving steadily.

The only real hiccup, I felt, was the motivation behind one of the optional puzzles needed to get the best ending - you know, the one involving an apparently unmotivated betrayal of trust. Did I miss something? It would be nice to have a little snippet of dialogue cluing that one somehow. Everything else the player did was clearly reasonable.

Finally, I think the writing is technically solid, which is pretty impressive, given that most native speakers get careless. Yes, the dialogue gets a bit bland or slightly stilted now and then, but the point gets across and the tension is always there.

I really enjoyed this game! The graphics are gorgeous and very atmospheric. I just have one question:

Spoiler
3 newspapers? I only found one! Is there any chance of a hint as to their location? If one was in the locker then it would have been nice to have a clue to suggest that I should still try and get it open in spite of Matt's instruction.

I will mention a minor textual issue. The term "CO's" was used a couple of times meaning "more than one CO". It should be "COs", the apostrophe before the "s" is not necessary.

I also had a little trouble with the launcher. If I wen into setup and then clicked "Save and Run" the application appeared to hang.

Spoiler

1st newspaper: on the shelf in the cellar corridor (needed to progress)
2nd newspaper: 2nd sewer screen
3rd newspaper: In the middle locker

The starter should in theory work. The bug doesn't happen for me, so I can't fix it. Best to get the non-starter version.

jrp

lovely.
loved it.
gonna play again to see if those 2 guys hook up  ;)

You know how I feel about this game, Bernie. It's probably my favourite indie game I've played all year. I thoroughly enjoyed playing and testing it for you.

'Nuff said.

Afflict

Hey Bernie, Man I was waiting for this one. Just got back from holiday, very eager to play the game however just a blank screen?

Any help?

Bernie

Thanks for the feedback! :D

If anyone is experiencing problems like Afflict, please try the version compiled with AGS 2.72 (http://www.origamihero.com/r09272.zip). Fiddling with the setup options may also help, like setting the game to windowed. I'm out of ideas otherwise.

Hi Bernie,

I noticed this game when it was in development earlier this year.  I was excited by the concept and by the obvious high quality of the screenshots you put up, and was very eager to play it.  I just got through it last night and I have to say it was even better than I was expecting!

The graphics and animation were superb - very atmospheric in the style of games like BASS, and the atmosphere was helped by the excellent, tense music.  The interface was easy to use and helped game play flow along.

Best of all was the tight plotting and the very innovative concept of having to gain the CO's trust!  You had reservations about the game's length - personally, I prefer a game to be shorter but tightly plotted, rather than huge with lots of padding and unnecessary puzzle-solving all over the place.  And the constant challenge to keep the CO on your side added to the tension and the drama, especially since it directly affected character development and the outcome of the story!

I have only two nags.  The first was with one of the puzzles, one which I'm sure you've heard a lot about ...

Spoiler

... the level measuring device!  Even though you did go out of your way to provide a diagram and in-game hints, this puzzle was very frustrating for a few reasons.  Firstly, it was perhaps too complex - there was an awful lot of information to take in all at once and a lot of it was quite technical.  Secondly, even with the diagram you provided, it was hard to visualise the 3D X-Y-Z axis when fiddling with those 2D sliders.  Thirdly, it wasn't entirely clear what was meant by the "deepest point" of the pipe - I thought that referred to the exact centre of the pipe, but apparently it referred also to the lowest point on the Y-axis within the pipe (which is confusing because "Z" is depth and "Y" is height).

My second nag is that the right-mouse-click used to skip through speech faster was not kept constant.  During actual gameplay it didn't work, and during cutscenes it skipped through the cutscene altogether.  Because I'm a fast reader, I often found myself accidentally skipping through important scenes and having to restore to a saved game to watch the scene properly.

Anyway, those are just two minor nags in what was an exceptionally excellent game!  You mustn't undersell yourself - you are clearly very talented and able to produce high quality stuff!  It was a pleasure to play the game.

Hmm....I used left-mouse-click to skip through dialogue, just like I always have. It stayed pretty constant.
 + :claps:

EDIT 2.
That starter.exe is a real mess. First of all, it didnt let me get any sounds on the game, as it said that could not initialize digital sound. Well, I renamed the .run to .exe and got the game running but crashed when loading a save game.
I do music and visual effects:
