Post by: rodekill on Fri 28/02/2003 01:59:53
Here it is.

I started this game earlier last year, and then shelved it until a few weeks ago.

No, there is no text parser in this one.

The Download (http://www.rodekill.com/rq2.php)

Screenshots Etc... (http://www.rodekill.com/play.html)

Enjoy.

YAY!!!  ;D

- Great cartoon graphics, very stylish, very professional
- Great attention to detail, (screen displays, rusty's ears)
- Cool doors opening (I think I know your problem)
- A funny story and dialogue and messages
- Might be nice for the 3 hallways screens to be 1 scrolling screen
- Midi volume too quiet, no sound control
- Brilliant GUI and inventory!!
- Puke-O-Meter "gimmick" good idea for game (no yellow? ;))
- You forgot to disable tab->inventory
- Some incorrect apostrophe usage
- pig latin translation file doesn't work for me

Thanks for the quick feedback. You spotted some stuff my beta testers didn't (ahem).
- Why thank you. I wouldn't call them professional, but I'm pretty happy with the style.
- I discovered while making this game that my strength lies in detailed short games. I love adding stupid little things like that, but if the game is too big, then I get fed up fast. Good to know someone appreciates it.
- I'm admittedly not a very brilliant scripter. I did my best on that one, and it works most of the time, so I'm happy for now. Maybe I'll fix it in the future.
- Thanks again. Judging your own humour is hella tough, so I just go with what comes naturally.
- Heh, maybe next time eh? :P
- Ok, you and I are of a rare breed, because I also have this problem, but no one seems to believe me. For some reason AGS likes to cut down my midi volume. I don't know why, and it doesn't seem to happen to most people. What sound card are you using? I'm on an old SB Live Gamer or something. Every AGS game does this and I've just grown to accept it.
- Another thanks. I originally had something else in mind, but this worked out much better I think. My goal was to try to keep everything on screen at once, while not taking up a lot of room.
- Just another one of those details I threw in.
- Eek. Thanks. Fixed in the current zip.
- Grammar is not my forte. (I bet both 'grammar' and 'forte' are spelled wrong there) You should have seen the stuff that actually didn't survive the beta tests.
- Thanks again. Fixed.

Great feedback. I really appreciate it.

I'm not sure, but I think the updated setup starts on pig latin by default. That might confuse quite a few people...

I finished the game though, it's very cool. :D congratulation.

Post by: volmel on Fri 28/02/2003 05:48:33
How do I get it to not do pig latin?
Title: Re:Rode Quest 2: The Sweet Smell of Stenchie
Post by: Relight on Fri 28/02/2003 05:58:16
To change the game language, run the file winsetup.exe and change "Game Language" to "Game Default".

- My soundcard is an also sorta old SB Live Value.
- The other resulting problem then is that sound effects are awful loud
- Nice cursors
- Great pdf extra (again!)
- I'd have something great to say of the ending but I'm not quite done yet  ;)
- Rode's games always get to me, I reach a certain point and then I'm stuck good (same with orig. Rodekill game)

Bleh, I have dial-up connection and I decided not to read AGS-forums at home today, so I went to school and noticed this thread. I downloaded this game and WOW! It's amazing! Great music! Great GUIs and inventory! Great graphics! Very cool game! Now I have to download this also at home... ;D

Ok, it should default to english again.

Wow !

This game is really GREAT !!!!!!

I love the pig-latin translation  ;D

I also love the dialogs and the characters and everything.

I'm really jealous.

I'm gonna stop my game right NOW !!!!

I will never be able to top this.

It's all about competition and.....

*gasp*

Everything is cool.

I really like this game

I hate you Rodekill. I almost decided to format my E: drive, because the game was working in some weird Canadian language. Some people are so unthoughtful.

This game rocks. I love everything. This sums it up mostly.

Excellent game so far Rode,

I must have downloaded the earlier version cause my piglatin doesn't work, I d/l it about 14hrs ago, just started playing it.

The puzzles are very hard, or I just have no idea what i'm supposed to be doing, probably a bit of both.

Spoiler
I keep figuring things out slowly, I know i've gotta get the muzzle and somehow distract the people but haven't figured it yet. I've charged the thinga and made the BropArm Hybrid but haven't found a use for it or even know it's a complete object yet. also haven't found a use for the thinga, Just thought I'd give you some feedback about some physicalities. I don't want any hints, I'll just sleep on it and see how I go next time.

Very impressive in every aspect

Hey, thanks a lot everybody.
I always say I make games for myself, but it's a great feeling to know other people enjoy them too.

Tim -> My last post was when I uploaded the fixed version. Well, fixed until Relight gets his hands on it anyways. ;)

Relight -> Yeah, the sound thing is definately an issue, unfortunately CJ can't replicate it, so he can't fix it. At least we know it works fine on most peoples systems, if that's any consolation.

I'm almost at the same place and I've got that arm charged.  Do I have to keep on building it?  I'm a girl and I can't build things well.  Crap, I totally suck at these games!

i love the pdf

I need help beating the FIRST rodekill game (I want to complete that one before I beat the second).

I've got the pool cue and the grocery list and I've cut the pipe open but I still can't get Jacque's jock from the pipe. It won't stick to the tip of the pool cue.

Excellent Rode,

I finally finished it, it took me a while to figure out few things after my last post but sleeping sometimes is the best medicine for getting out of being stuck in a game.

All wrapped up in a neat little package.

You can be very proud of this game.

Everything is so tight. I went back and played it again and it just flows so smoothly. Great music, amazing graphics, cute story. It would be really great to see something longer from you of this quality.

So where is RK3? Huh, where is it!?

Post by: rodekill on Sat 01/03/2003 17:06:20
Heh, that wasn't even RK2.

I've got like, two series going here, the main one which is a trilogy of sorts, and these little 'Quest' side things.

RK2 is currently going through a creative cleansing. I'm making a list of things I hate and things I like, and if I can fix any of it.

Anyways, thanks for the great comments.

I'm moving tomorrow so things are gonna be hectic for a while. I may not be around to answer any questions or anything, so if something pops up, er, ask eric.

Okay, thanks Jimi.

I've fixed that bug, as well as added Jimi and Relight to the credits as Bug Hunters.

That's probably gonna be the last update until my move is resolved, let me know if I managed to mess anything up when I remade the zip. :)

Title: Re:Rode Quest 2: The Sweet Smell of Stenchie

I never used to bother reading the manuals. I'd just enter a room and get myself blown to bits, until I learned to read the manual(about 5 years!) 8)

Quoteand i hate how you for some reason love math puzzles....

well the math puzzle this time was hardly difficult.

- No messup on zip remake.  Good luck with your move.

- The ending.  It *was* bloody brilliant.  Nice ending closeup treat too.  Thanks for adding me to the credits even though I didn't do much!

Spoiler
- Great flexibility, using the string either first on the arm or on the broom.

Spoiler
- I was probably stuck where anyone else got stuck, not realizing there's actually another screen to the right!
[close]
- Well I hate to be picky (but I will anyway), so if you plan another update, you could make Rodekill not walk right through all the characters (you could also change the walkable area just a bit so Rodekill doesn't stand on the toolkit).  And I MSNd you of other stuff.

- I thought the solution to the MIDI would be just alt-tab and adjust it, but AGS lowers it for every room!

This is top quality stuff.  I'd say it's better than Rodekill 1, even if it is a side project.

I love how the player has to pay attention to detail.  I got stuck a few times, and each time it was because I was being lazy and not looking at the stuff on the screen properly.

Great stuff.

I'm stunned by the inventive yet highly stylized use of lowres gfx. This is so beautiful and so simplified into perfection that I feel dumb for choosing highres for wtii. It's stuff like this that make great gameplay!!!

The interface is kinda awkward, but that's perhaps just me. I'd like to get the inv cursor by rightclick cycle aswell, it's kinda tedious to get 'use', then click on the inventory box.

Math puzzles.. my oh my.. although, it's made like a cheezy copy protection slander, so it is quite hilarious and I can live with it.. for now :)

A very very good game
