Title: Signal & Echo: Iris is Missing (demo)
Post by: Kini Games on Wed 02/11/2022 13:48:36
Hi all,

I've just launched the demo of my game (made in AGS), Signal & Echo: Iris is Missing, which I'm billing as "a point-and-click adventure with innovative detective mechanics". This is my first 'proper' game, so I'd really love some feedback.

(I hope it's OK to publish this under 'Completed Game Announcements', given that it's a demo. There's at least an hour of game there. Basically, it's 'Day 1', but I didn't want to make it episodic. Still, if this doesn't fly, please let me know and I'll happily remove the post.)

The game's about a young reporter named Ollie (my background is in journalism). On his first day at the local paper, he's been tasked with solving the mystery behind a schoolgirl's recent disappearance.

Alongside inventory puzzles and verb interactions, the game uses a unique text parser system, which I designed so that I could use puzzles like you might find in a detective game in an otherwise traditional P&C adventure.

Here are the links:

And here's the trailer:

If you give it a try, please let me know how you got on!

Thanks!

I really enjoyed the demo! It makes you feel like you're investigating a case, finding information that leads to other, er, leads, interrogating people, and linking clues.

The text system is a really cool mechanic and makes you feel like you're asking questions yourself, instead of choosing them from a list. It also pays to keep notes on your own on names, places, and events.
The other puzzles featured in the demo were interesting (especially the shorthand one).

The story is intriguing, even though we only see a small bit in the demo.
Can't wait for the full game to come out!

If you like detective films/games, definitely give it a try!

I played the demo yesterday, and it sucked me right into the story. I was glad when I discovered the button for requesting a repeat of the important lines...I had forgotten the name of the shop and dreaded having to start over.  :-D

Good, Ega-style graphics, a text input interface that makes sense and enhances gameplay instead of just being there, believable characters and a compelling story. If there's one thing I would have changed, I guess it would be the need to write down and punch in correct phone numbers. It may be accurate and realistic, but it's not fun like finding new locations on the map is fun. But all in all, a very good effort so far.  (nod)
