Haha, funny thing. Not long time ago I saw the demo of this game again and was wondering what happened to this project. I actually almost PMed you. I was worried that this game had died because you hadn't updated the Games In Production thread. I'm so glad I was wrong. I'll try this game tomorrow. :D
Wonderful game.......Love it...... However, I am stuck and since their is a hints button that I have used occasionally I don't want to go to hints and tips with this question..... But, I cant find the two-way radio...... It says that it is in the elevator in Nazare and I have looked everywhere but cant seem to find it..... So if you would be so kind, I would appreciate it very much......Been looking for about 20 minutes....... rode elevator car many times also.......Thank you so much for this wonderful work of art......
Thanks so much Rosie for the compliments!Ã, It's been a long 18 months!
As for the two-way radio...
Spoiler
You can turn around inside the elevator and look in the other direction.Ã, That should help you out.
Good luck!
Thank you so much, I never thought to do that.......Again, Great Game.......Beautiful scenery, etc.....
Extra Post: I just finished this brilliant game...... It is a masterpiece in all aspects........ Really enjoyed the scenery, music and reading the history behind it.... When can you play a game, enjoy it and learn something besides? Great Job
Thanks for the great review!Ã, There's nothing for exciting than hearing the positive reviews of people who have tried out the game.
It was a long 18 months, but truly a pleasure creating the game, from photographing all the locations, to researching the background to be historically accurate but still with a touch of fantasy and adventure.
I hope everyone enjoys playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it!
Eugene, this is a great - and unique - adventure game. Teh built-in hints system is a great idea (though I still can't find that damn rubber stopper in the hut!!) and the photos are excellent quality.Ã, The style reminds me of the 16-bit first person games such as Dreamzone, but much better!Ã,Â
Will have to get round to reviewing this properly soon.Ã, :D
Thanks CaptainD!Ã, A complete review would be great!Ã, As for the rubber stopper...
Spoiler
Look inside one of the hanging baskets...Ã, ;)
Looks awesome! Thanks to my new internet connection, it only took me a minute to download all of this! I can't wait to play!
EDIT: I just finished the game, and it was very fun. I have a question, though;
Spoiler
Is there a "wrong" way to use the Oracle's power?
TheCheese33, glad you enjoyed it!
To answer your question... no, not in THIS game. I considered having multiple endings to allow for it but ultimately decided against it. But the idea is certainly an interesting concept for perhaps a sequel.
A hints forum has been created. In order to follow the forum rules, if anyone is stuck and needs a hint, you can post a message here:

Thanks everyone!
A very interesting and enjoyable game. Thank You!
Excellent game. You managed to break my tradition of not playing first-person (photo) games, but yours was just so well done I couldn't pass up on it. Props!

Thanks Largopredator!
I've always enjoyed the first-person type adventure games and that's what made me attempt this challenge at creating one. I've received so much positive feedback, it's been absolutely amazing! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it as well!

Hi Eugene,
I really do want to play this game...but everytime I download with getright I get the message "this file does not support resuming" and after a while "the file was not at this url".
I have a pathetically slow dialup and its impossible for me to download such a large file without a download manager. The same thing happens when I use the mirror.
Any solutions? The game seems fantastic and I'm really frustrated as I'm not able to download it.Ã, :(

Ok, I'm trying the link. {fingers crossed} :-*
I'm having similar problems downloading. I have a pathetically slow dial up download but I also can't seem to download from the rapid share site either. I keep reading the rave reviews of this game and woulkd dearly love to play it. Any suggestions?
Maggie, I'm not sure what else to suggest. Perhaps someone else reading this thread will have a suggestion. According to RapidSharing, they support accelerators: "You may use any of the major accelerators, a few popular ones are: Speedget, Download Accelerator Plus, GetRight, FlashGet and GoZilla."
Eugene, I'm using getright but when I get to the rapid share site there doesn't seem to be any active buttons to press for downloading.

Towards the bottom of the page, you need to enter the number/letter combination into the box and click submit. That will take you to another page that will do a count-down and then a link that says "Download file" will show up.
It's certainly not the most user-friendly download site. That's why I replaced it with the new links.
Eugene, thanks for speedy reply. I feel such an idiot I wondered what the submit button was for.
I started downloading the game. It was 60% done...then my computer crashed due to heat. >:(( I think I live in the hottest city of the world) and I lost everything. Then I saw that Rapidsharing won't let me complete my continue download!!!
Its impossible. I know it seems like too much to ask for as I'm the only one but if u could upload the file in a place with a fixed url I'll be really grateful.
The game has crossed 3000 downloads in such a short time which means how good it is and also means nobody is facing the problem I'm facing.
Looks like I'll be missing on this really great game and am very frustrated. :'(

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time downloading the game.Ã, Unfortunately I don't have any personal webpage to host such a large file.Ã, There is however a foreign site that has reviewed the game and is hosting the file there as well (it's not in English but the link is at the bottom):Ã,Â

You can try that.Ã, Good luck!
Thanks Eugene!
You are really helpful. I'm clicking that link rght now. If unsuccesful, I'll wait till I visit my mom's house (she has a lan conn) and download the game there. I'm not gonna miss playing this game. :)
Eugene, kudos for a great game in an original style (for AGS).
Usually I don't like these first person style adventure games, but this one captured me with a very interesting story, with interesting puzzles and wonderfully taken photos. The photos were really good and had all the needed detail, it felt like taking a real tour of that area in portugal. The part with the machines was hard but innovative. The story was catching, I just hope the open end means a sequel. It's great that you did the Hints System, although at least in 3 points it left stuff unclear:
Spoiler
1. location of rubber stopper 2. how to find the beach under the wind generator 3. the radio in the elevator - it was really hard to notice that you could actually turn around in it, it seemed like it was just a cutscene to wait through
(no need to answer these, I already finished the game)
Btw, zooomer1990 - you really need a new fan! the temperature of the room doesn't have much to di with the heat in your computer. An aevrage CPU
\motherboard\memory\power supplier need to be at max about 50-60 celsius to work properly. If it reaches 80 it restarts. Now you see no country is that hot to be 80 celsius and even in places where the temperature is below zero the above mentioned parts will still be that hot, the only cooling that matters is the one siiredctly on the components. Get aida32 and see where the temperature is too high then get a new fan for those parts.
Thanks Nostradamus for all the great comments! I'll admit that currently there is no sequel in the works, BUT I really enjoyed creating The Oracle and the comments & reviews have been so great that I am seriously considering creating another. While the story has a conclusion in this game, a sequel has always been in the back of my mind and I purposly left the story open for that reason. There's a lot more to the Oracle than meets the eye!
Wow. That was so cool. The machines were really tricky. I'm amazed that they obviously actually exist. What happens with them in real life? What are they for?
Thanks Ness :) I was wondering when someone was going to ask about those machines! They are actually part of the Portugal Expo '98 in an area appropriately called the "Water Gardens" (Jardins da Agua). The theme of the expo was The Oceans and all the "machines" in the garden manipulate water in one way or another. It's actually a very pleasant walk and the game only shows a small portion of the gardens. I couldn't help but incorporate it into The Oracle!
I feel like I've just visited Portugal. I hope you do another game. If I only knew how to make games I could do one with cool New Zealand scenery. Maybe a Lord of the Rings game? ;D
Great game! The photos are well taken and really get me into the scenery. Atmosphere and story are intriguing. Good job!
Version 1.1 has now been released, which includes more in-game hints and several bug fixes.
Enjoy! :)
The Oracle

After a long break from AGS, I got back to playing AGS games. And what a surprise it was to find one that was set in Portugal! I never really thought we'd have material for any of these occult stories thingies. If you ever care to return here, though, I think I can point you to some other interesting places (Quinta da Regaleira was once property of followers of the Templars, as I understand it... need I say more?).
First things first: the presentation is wonderful. Truly wonderful. It's a pity that so many screens are so static, especially the outdoor screens - I realize it's hard to animate "photos", but it would have added so much, made it so alive. At any rate, it's still very impressive. The interface is very nice and more than adequate.
Navigation was a problem at first, but then, it always is in these 1st person games. You get to see images, and it takes a while to form them into a coherent game world. All the same, I'd really prefer to have seen arrows, you know - the cursor turning into an arrow pointing the way you can go. Just a preference o' mine.
Another thing I wasn't crazy about was the way the story unfolded... but I'm very picky, and mind you, I'm still on the lighthouse, having gotten in and found the note (yep, people, this sentence is pretty much spoiler-free). I just thought the introducing of the "oracle" and all happened too fast - the player character (who, despite your interesting attempts, is NOT the player - it actually is a character) seemed to be very, very accepting of all that. Hey, oracles and stuff, what the hey, all in a day's work, sort of thing. But like I said, I'm a bit picky, and the story seems to be developing well. I would have just preferred it to be told in a slightly different fashion at times.
Like I said, I'm still playing it. I'm not falling in love with it or anything, but it's certainly a great game. I just wish it had more animations. I think that IS my biggest gripe - I know that when I go back to it I'll go back to a "slide-show world". It even discourages me from getting into the story too much, actually.
Anyway, all in all, a wonderful job. It has room to improve, but then again, what doesn't?
PS - "Bom tarde" doesn't exist, it'd be "Boa tarde". The portuguese characters' broken English is very nice. And "Nada" isn't exactly right - I understand some people can "eat" the first word, but I've never heard anyone say "nada", it being "De nada". Just some picky picky pickiness.
thanks, eugene, i really enjoyed the game. some of the lighting effects you added were great!
Rui, thanks for the comments.Ã, When I booked my three week vacation to Portugal, I decided I just had to use the beautiful scenery in Portugal for a game.Ã, It also posed a problem because I couldn't just go back to take more photos etc. if I forgot something.Ã, Nonetheless, it turned out better than I had imagined.Ã, Also thanks for pointing out the portuguese grammer!Ã, They have been fixed in the new version 1.1 -- I can't believe I messed up on "Boa Tarde".Ã, I really have to use my Portuguese more!Ã, :)

Excellent game, I was really hooked into it!
But I must admit the ending felt a tad rushed. Is there maybe going to be a sequel? *hint hint*

Strange, you're the first to mention something like that. Anyhow... enjoy the game!
Looks very interesting.
A pity though, that I couldn't even make my way past the voice messages in the starting of the game.
Reason? 'Cos I don't understand most accents very well(despite tons of repeats), so a lack of subtitles was of no help at all.
Oh well. On to the next game. I hope that maybe there might be subtitles in the next game created by this person.

btw, what did I do wrong? I'm now at the wind generator but there are no footprints. Meanwhile, I've been scrambling around looking at the telescope, the temple and even the furnicular for clues but no go.
Have you tried using the Hint system? It's very usefull in most situations. You can access it by clicking the PDA in the top-right corner of the screen.

Hi handjaja,
I don't know what else to suggest... the s8.quicksharing.com site is probably the most reliable and the fastest as well. Why can't you download from that site?
Tried all the download links.
Pls Eugene, check it out yourself, bcs, none of them work.
At the s8 site, the zip file I get downloaded, is empty: 0 bytes.
Maybe you get put it out on some torrent sites, or Shareaza.
Good luck

My mistake: download works for the main site s8..., if one allows the cookies.
Maybe it is a good idea to share this info at the website next to the download link.
Sorry for all trouble I may have caused.

I use mozila firefox to download to no avail
so I use opera and it is working
This looks like a really neat game. I'll try it when I get home! :D.. I just hope I don't have any downloading issues.
Amazing game, especially it is free and done by 1 person not a team.
I wonder how long did Eugene make this game. It play like MYST but the puzzle is more sensible especially with the hint.
Eugene please make another game like this and I believe there are many who are willing to contribute financially.
best regards

Thanks so much handjaja!
I took me approximately 18 months, working on it when I had some free time. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've received a lot of great comments. I'd like to create another game, and plan to, but it may take some time. I'll keep everyone informed.
I love the game. Just love it - enjoy the interface, the photos are great. Very engaging. I do have a question (actually, 2 -- number one being how do I do spoilers in this interface?)
Spoiler
I'm in the wonderful machine garden, have to get special water, know where to get it and have object to get it in inventory. Problem -- my hand-eye/timing coordination. Is there a way to make the water pour longer? I see where the photo changes from stating machine to "water" but either can't line up the thing that captures the water with the right hot spot... or something.
Please help a 50-something person get past this point... (may it be said that I really don't enjoy tightly-time puzzles)
.Many thanks in any case for your ingenuity and hard work!
Hi shadow_kate,
Thanks so much for the compliments!
To hide a spoiler, place the text between the code: [ hide ] and [ /hide ] ...there are NO spaces between the square brackets.
Spoiler
That machine has given people problems.Ã, I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you right-click during the game, the inventory opens.Ã, If you were using the top-left icon, you may want to try right-clicking to see if you have enough time to grab the bucket and fill it with water.
If the above hint doesn't solve your problem, try the one below...
Spoiler
Had you filled the bucket with the blue water, and then poured it on the circular track machine, two symbols would have appeared.Ã, The two symbols are the greek letters "alpha" (looks like "a") and "omega" (looks like "w").Ã, That should get you back on the right track.Ã, ;)
Good luck!
your game was really good. I was thinking that maybe like for shopkeepers, make a loop on the doing things, make more movement.
One suggestion. The three portals are supposed to be mysterious places that are invisible to outsiders, but you can find display cases and other modern facilities, which makes it really bizarre. Why don't you change the plot a little bit: in the chamber, it simply points out 3 locations (real places), then the player just uses the map, goes out and collects the stones, then heads back to the lighthouse/cave. This will give a more realistic feeling. You may even add puzzles about how to get rid of the museum or church keepers.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was actually on a time schedule to finish the game...my daughter was due to be born and I had to finish the game! So I had to cut certain things out and change the ending somewhat from what I had originally planned.
I'll certainly use the suggestions for the sequel. Nothing is currently in the works, just a lot of ideas floating in my head.
Congratulations for making such a wonderful game. I am impressed with its immersive quality and its intelligent puzzles and the music. The images were also fantastic. I hope you continue making games as you are very good at them.

I've checked the download links and remove the mirror link that was no longer working.
Just click on the download link to take you to the download page. On this page, wait 20 seconds and the download link will appear. Have fun!
I'm in the temple at the Portal part of the game. ;D
The Hint system really comes in handy. I used it twice. ;D
The game has fun puzzles, not very complicated, and it has very nice graphics too. I escecialy enjoy the in-game menu and the inventory ;D and the 800x600 resolution is very rare seen in AGS games now a days.
Great job! Altho, the story could of been better.
Anyway, looking forward to future games you develop, and I'm also going to look forward to finishing "The Oracle" ;D
I have now finished the game and I must say that it was VERY good game!
The puzzles were good, the photos looks good, the GUI's are nice.
My only really complaining is, that there should be more movement/animation. For example it looks a little bit stupid in the town were the people are coming from the beach. They are just there but not moving :). It is ofcourse hard to animate them, but something more would make it more realistic.
I did use the hint system quite a lot and I regret that now. It is just too easy to access the hint system when it's always there :). I think that I have to play this one again without using the hint system.
Overally great game, hope to see more!
I now am in the hut.
But I cannot take the articles into my inventory ??? .
map tube, arrow, anchor, rope, lighter, shotgun shells, cloth, rubber stopper. I could take only one book and pills.
Please help me. Sorry my bad English
Lindi, there is something you need to do before those items can be picked up. You're skipping a step...just take a second look at the in-game hints and you'll realize what it is. Good luck!

I hope Eugene doesn't mind, but I mirrored the file. For those who can't get the original link to work, try TheOracle11.zip (http://boxstr.com/files/1159857_y6hux/TheOracle11.zip) ?
Thanks auriond, I finally was able to download the game. The original mediafire site never worked for me; I actually never saw the download button at the bottom where it's supposed to be. Let's hear it for SIMPLE download procedures--like "click it and get a zip file."
DTA downloaded the php file aswell, worked with normal download though (I use DTA on large files as I can resume them if they time out, which they do).
Eugene,
I couldn't help but notice in the screenshots you provided of your adventure game a Canada Post building.
Might I ask you where you shot the scenes for your adventure game?? And I appologize if somebody already asked you this question.
Take care! :)
Excellent game, I thoroughly enjoyed, thankyou :)
I did find a little bug though
Spoiler
After you have made the hookshot-cannon thing and fired it up to the metal bar on the beach, you can go back to the hut and pick up another lighter and bottle of pills.
Very interesting game.

Hi Marc, the post office was photographed in the small Ontario town of Tottenham. :)
Eugene,
Great game. Also added a new twist when I realized I'd been to many of the places in the game during a visit to Portugal!
Hey Eugene, thanks for a wonderful game! Was fun and challenging and had a really lovely plot. I am not ashamed to admit I played through in one sitting, and will probably make this one of the games I go to and relax (the one time having the memory capacity of a goldfish works to my advantage ;) ) on a regular basis.
Thank you!
we need more games like this!!!
that telescope screenshot reminds me of Myst III:Exile..... dunno why.....
I know it's been over 120 days but I had to ask Eugene a question...
I've gotten the radio and know what I need to do in order to use it properly; but when I try to put my radio away after having succeeded in talking the guard out of the tower, the computer refuses to let me put it away!
(I think part of the reason is because I got the lighter again after I made the rope cannon and the computer somehow is looping back to the previous coded commands for obtaining the rope cannon, leaving me stuck in limbo at the tower).
Any thoughts?
Well...that was totally weird.
I reloaded the game and it let me put the radio away.
Sorry about all that.
*Edit*: Awesome game, man! Whether you do the sequel or not, keep 'em coming!
