Hi there, this is my first attempt at an adventure game.

Inspiration came from the old Hugo games. This was really just a chance for me to get a grip of AGS and see what it could do.

The graphics are a showcase to MSPaint.

But I hope you enjoy the game and solve Whodunit?

It can be downloaded here - Download Whodunit?

Enjoy

Nice one. The graphics are nice. Also the music is nice but doesn't really add to the suspense. Some improvements could be made:

- Let Jane walk around instead of reacting on interaction.
- Much more interaction with objects
- Debug mode is still on.
- Typos and bad English (and I'm not referring to the maid.. ;-)
- Logical dialogs:
Spoiler
Using the bed in the bedroom tell me to find out who killed uncle, even before I know he's killed.

- Logical interactions:
Spoiler
- You have to use the keyhole to look and look at the keyhole to realize it's a keyhole...
- You hear noises outside but can't use the window to see what's there (lack of interaction).

But for a first game... a great start. Promising for any updated version or new game :-)

Leon,

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Yeah there is a lot I would like to do to to improve it. I am currently planning on a full 3D (movement will be like the 7th guest, click the hotspot and movement transition video plays). Set in two time periods and actual puzzles.

It was that sort of project i wanted to take on, and from what I have seen of AGS it would be capable of it.

And another one:

After talking to Hugo, I talk to him again, the game stops.

It doesn't stop, it crashes.

Error: DoDialog: all options have been turned off.

The music and graphics are... meh.  They made it possible for you to complete your game.  Which is more than I can say.

The use of the arrow keys...  Obviously you built a few puzzles around this, so I understand the need.  But it still irked me.  Just something to keep in mind for future development.

Lack of interaction!!!!  This was the killer for me.  I got as far as the snake and just gave up.  Most of the stuff I looked at had no description, most of the actions I attempted had no description.  For example, I passed a buglight right next to a beehive, at least that's what I think they were, there was no description when I looked at them, and nothing I did had any response.

Venus Flytraps are deadly?! Okay, it's a comedy game.  So, I navigate the maze of flytraps and I pick up the doodad... maybe its a magnifying glass, maybe its a frying pan.  The world may never know, because there is no description.

The Gardener stops me from pulling the levers.  I threaten him with gun - no reaction.  Hit him with frying pan - or is it a magnifying glass? - no reaction.  Talk to him - nothing.

I'm tolerant of mediocre graphics and music, but the lack of interaction was a deal breaker for me.  Put some time in here and it will be an entirely different game.

Just my 2 cents,

The puzzle with the gardener:

Spoiler
Try using the garlic. I have to admit to laughing when that worked.

I have to agree with the other posters here. I have no idea what that item is that I found in the maze is so it's hard to guess what to do with it (I did figure it out eventually). Ditto for most items in the game. I didn't realize that I had to use the arrow buttons to move the character around so I was one step away from giving up.

I gave up when
Spoiler
I got to the guy held hostage by the alien

.

People commented on the music but I can't get any music or sound from this game.

The game has potential. Hopefully it will be released with a more playable version.

Cheers

Guys thanks for the feed back....

Yeah it was a rushed game, and made it in a week. just testing the system out.

I want to go back and update a load of stuff, but was really looking for a platform to use for uni work.

but with the positive feedback esp from cogliostro I really want to go back and put the interaction in all the objects and items.

But guys thanks for playing it.

Uni holidays are coming up I may spend that time really making the game something special

One other comment about the graphics:

I don't know where they came from but they seem inconsistent at times. The shovel in the shed looks like it must be 10 feet tall. The toy box looks like it's completely from another set of graphics. The same with the flowers around the border of one of the rooms.
