Midnight Spirit Board

This is a non-adventure game made with AGS...

Two ways to play... Ask a yes or no question, and have your fortune told by the spirit guides. OR...you may also use this board as a traditional spirit (Ouija) board - just don't click, and use your mouse the same as you would a normal planchette.

Some believe that demons or other hostile forces can contact or manipulate board users, so use it responsibly!

If an evil spirit kills me in the night because of this, I'm coming back to haunt YOUR copy of the Ouija board.

Oh goodie! Then maybe we'll have a real ghost to talk to...

RedBlob

Yikes - to respond to some email I've gotten --

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. It is not my intention to encourage anything to do with satanism! I'm a pacifist, and don't believe in violence.

In my religious beliefs, I actually do not believe there is satan at all. I programmed the game to be a simple fortune reading program, with a creepy edge, but do not believe it is real or can actually contact anything dangerous.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

...you've been getting e-mail like that? Jesus, some people... I understand people who believe in the stuff can consider the Ouija board very dangerous, but what the heck does spiritism have to do with satanism?

It surprised me to! But, I have the mystic seer up on my page as well, and he has horns (he was a precise replica of the one on tv), so maybe that led to the misunderstanding.

Well, I wanted to know if I was a donkey and clicked X and was told it was an excellent deduction. I think your board is flawed. :P

[joke]But you ARE an ass, m0ds![/joke]

This is a neat little simulator, well done!  You should add some random stuff where the mouse moves on its own ^_^

RedBlob

Yeah, we wanted to add a function so that you could display and save letters you scrolled over, if you used it as a traditional board, but couldn't figure out how to script that.

Some random creepy events are a good idea...

Gord10

I played it.
It was an interesting experience, but still far away from to give any creep. I know it is just a non-adventure game, but it still looks so empty. Maybe the whole Midnight Spirit Board could be adapted inside a full adventure game?
By the way, I wanted to show you this: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=12421.msg374248#msg374248 I had an idea that uses the spirit calling board.

I'll go read that thread. Somebody else mentioned this also - that it would be a good idea to embed a fortune game inside of an actual adventure game.

RedBlob

I read the thread - sounds like an awesome concept, but a bit involved (regarding the scripting - over my head!), but that Migs guy seems to know what he's talking about.

The fortune reading games are pretty easy to design (just a lot of random functions, which we linked to time), so it wouldn't be hard to make one that fits within a game.

Are you sure? Look for this name on the net: Medjugorje. And if you want, listen to her words. Peace and love.
One must always try to win without cheating... always. TACKLE HIS LEGS!!!

The screenshot reminds me of 7th Guest. Cool beans.

I don't understand... The "non-adventure" (but I think at least "game") works in any way?

What sense has click over yes and get a display saying "the answer yes"? I told myself the answer to my questions?

I don't understand anything :S

Use the force, conte.

Relax. It's mindless fun. You pretend you're talking to someone from beyond, or something.

Accourse, it's only fun if you're the kind of guy who tries to make serious conversation with A.L.I.C.E., wanting to see how it'll end.

I've had extremely amusing conversations with that gal. They were all a bit one-sided, though. Makes me wonder.
