Title: Vic Wreckle's Halloween Costume
Post by: EKM on Fri 28/11/2008 16:48:13
This is my first AGS game. I haven't touched AGS since 2003, so I had to relearn the basics. Therefore, what you'll get here is a simple and easy-as-opening-a-can-of-cola game. If you hate those, stay far away. Otherwise, the game turned out the way I wanted it to.

Synopsis: Slacker/Paper Carrier Vic Wreckle is invited to a Halloween party, but due to poor time management and irresponsibility, he misses his chance to pick up a costume. With the store closed, he needs to make himself a costume using items he finds in his condominium, so that he can attend the party without feeling like a loser.

Features:

- Three Unique Characters
- Fun Dialogue
- Colourful Old-School Graphics
- Slice-Of-Life Style Atmosphere
- Cool Objects And Interactions

Oooh... nice! Bit late for halloween but who cares. Nice graphics. Crisp and clear. But I'm not really to the cola yet. The can is open, I just can't drink it yet  ;D

I crashed the game:

Error: prepare_script: error -18 (no such function in script) trying to run 'hDVDs_UseInv' (Room 1)

while using any item on the DVD's in your bedroom.

Dammit! I knew there was something I forgot to do...I just couldn't think of what it was. Thanks! I'll fix it.

EDIT: Okay...it's fixed. Notify me of any other errors.

Nice game! I like it even though I'm stuck.

Spoiler

I got the skull mask with the rubber bands through it, the black robe, the gloves, and I can't seem to find out what's next.

also a bug:

Spoiler

-You can keep using the clay on the skull, and giving it to the girl, which causes a loop, and gives you an extra mask at some point.

-May I suggest taking the debug keys out of the global script? (so no one can cheat)  :P

I'm enjoying it so far, hope to see more games from you!

Thanks. I fixed the bugs now.

Spoiler
I also took out the debug keys from the global script lol.

As for what items you need:
Spoiler
You will need to find two hidden objects; the black marker and the scythe.

Is it me or is debug mode still on? Keys are disabled alright but when I press ~ I still see all debug info.

My costume is ready but I have a huge problem finding
Spoiler
the scythe. I know it has to be in the bedroom, under something but.... where? I can't find any indication of where to look.

At first I also had some trouble finding the kitchen. I didn't expect another room there. I would make more sense if there would be one on the other side, next to the TV (graphics-wise that is).

I don't know. I don't even care about the debug anymore. Blah.

Anyway, I changed the location of the kitchen so that it is on the other side.

Spoiler
The scythe is under the bed but I didn't put any indication there on purpose. You have to click on the exact spot on the edge of the bed. It's near the bottom of where the floorboard line is.

I've found the...
Spoiler
...scythe. It was really hard! Is the black marker hidden in a similar place?

Nice game, by the way. Didn't find any bugs so far!

No the black marker is a visible spot.

This ruins the game for me. It was a nice game, the object hunt for the DVD and marker etc. But this... no, sorry. Just blind clicking on a spot of which you can't even know it's there because there's no hint or conversation that mentions it. Sorry, but in my opnion this is just not done in an adventure game, certainly not in one of a quality like this. In my ranking it went from 8.5 to 2 just because of that last bit.

Sorry that it ruined it for you. I should've made clues.

Since I value your feedback, I made the change. I don't know if that'll appease you though. If it's a 2, then it's a 2.

That is so much better! It's a 9 now! You know why? Because you took the effort of listening and changing in such a short amount of time. I appreciate that. Respect.

Plans for a next project already?

[update] Now that I play again, I notice you've also changed the location of the kitchen.  8)! It almost looks like Gaming On Demand.... wait till I get the bill....  ;D

lol, if it improves the gameplay, then that's what matters. I went and looked at as many photos/blueprints of apartments, condos and houses as I could on google and realized that...yes, it's true that the kitchen is closer to the living room.
