Neo

Hello.

After some time of playing around with the AGS and familiarizing with the scripting language, I finally managed to finish the first game and release it under the banner of Neo Productions.  :D

Here it goes…

The Story:

The story is fairly simple. After a night out drinking Chuck manages to get home in one piece but, as you’ll find out, he can’t find his key anywhere. Since he still lives with his parents, he needs to find a way of entering the house without waking them up.
As I said, simple.  ;)

Features:

   - Sierra-like interface with custom cursors and GUI buttons
   - A bit of humour.
   - Fair number of puzzles (for a short game).  ::)
   - Throw up system.
   - Game is intended to be played at 640x400 res.

Oh, and if you find any bugs, please do tell.

I hope you'll enjoy our little game.

Thanks.

What a fun, solid, little game this is. I loved the humour (the puking, the crowbar, the dark shed). Brilliant!
Catchy tune at the start & end, nice effects during the game. Fun animations (e.g. the wait cursor) and fresh looks.

Was a bit disappointed with the end though. Expected a bit more there (like LeisureSuitLarry in the drugstore...)

But overall perfect start! Congratulations.

Wow guys  :o thanks for the comments. Nice to see you like the visual style.  :)

@Leon
Glad you liked the humour, wasn't really sure if it would work. And I'm particularly glad you liked the tune 'cause it's my little work of art ;D

Once again, thanks for the comments. Keep 'em coming, good or bad.  :)

Ultra Magnus

It is a pretty cool little game.

I agree with Leon, though, I was expecting the finish to be a bit... bigger.
Nothing huge, just something like...

Spoiler
The guy goes through all that trouble, but ends up waking everyone up anyway.
Especially after all the noise he made falling into the shed and fixing the ladder.

Overall, though, a good way to spend a few minutes. Well done.

Also, I spotted a typo: "comme" instead of "come" during the opening monologue.
I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

I'm tired of pretending I'm not bitchin', a total frickin' rock star from Mars.

I also finished it and I found it a nice little game. The graphics are well done, sound is good, the dia.. err... monologues are funny and the story works well.  ;)

Looking forward you next game; well done.

I liked ALL of it, and one of the few games I've managed on my own. It took me a while to find the nail box, that's all.  Your pussles were better than in many other games, and not illogical, obscure or making me scream for a walkthrough. Excellent job!
If you make more games in this style I'll be more than happy to play.

First off. We got two blue cups. Yay! :D

@Eva & neon
Glad you liked it ;D I was a bit afraid that the puking jokes would be a little too much, but we decided to stick to our guns. :)

At the moment we are currently working on the plot and puzzle outlines for our next game, which will involve the same main character. So beware, you'll be informed of it in due time ;)

Oh, and one more thing. If you liked or disliked the game, it would be much appreciated if you could take the time and vote on the game page, so that I can show my non-English speaking  friends how much people like or dislike our game.

Cheers!

I personally found the puking jokes (or, one of them) to be quite disgusting ... I don't mind the character vomiting or even that he's vomiting voluntarily, but vomiting in the place where the game requires him to vomit to make the story progress almost made me quit playing.

But we can't all like the same things, so I guess this is just a matter of taste.

One thing that annoyed me was the cursor system. I use the right mouse button to swap through the cursor modes, so whenever the cursor looked like a hand, I automatically assumed that I was in "Interact" mode. Of course, TWO of your cursors were hand-shaped, so instead of walking around trying to interact with things, I walked around trying to make things vomit without being aware of it. But of course, that's my fault for not reading the manual and not really using the GUI the way it should, it was just... funny and annoying at the same time to figure out that I'd been trying to get a tree to vomit.

My favorite part of the game: The "dark room trying to find the light switch feeling your way around" part. A highly entertaining concept.

Congratulations on the two cups and good luck on the next game -- though, if it contains more of
Spoiler
feeding your vomit or other body fluids to cute little animals,

I probably won't play it.

Well, you're quite right about that. The thing is I'm not that easily disgusted by a cartoon or a cartoon like game. Perhaps I should have mentioned that some images might me disgusting. My bad. ;)

Can't figure out whether you were sarcastic or you enjoyed the ride. Which ever the case may be I hope there are parts of the game you did like.

As for the cursors, yeah, I guess I blew it there with the similar images, but hey, gotta leave something for the next game.

Anyway thanks for giving this game a try and for telling us what you think of it. Much appreciated.

Neo, I'm sure you'll be happy to read that i have now voted for this game. I'm glad you reminded me of this as I some times forget to vote.

No sarcasm. I really liked it. I think it's a brilliant idea in an adventure game to take the visuals away for a moment, so that the player has to feel around a bit to find out what things are. Of course, when used wrong, that can easily lead to blind pixel-hunting not knowing what to look for, but your hotspots were big enough for that to not be a problem (also, the "?????" mouseoverhotspot really helps). So yeah, I liked this one.

@olafmoriarty
Yeah, we were really worried about the pixel hunting issue so we decided to put larger hotspots so that the player doesn't get frustrated, since the dark room was intended as a sort of a gag. Guess it worked well.

Cheers!

neon

That was a good decision, otherwise I would probably got frustrated. But the way it is, it works fine. You found the right balance.

FireOrange

This game made fun, good work. It just was a bit disappointing that there wasn`t a real endsequence. The graphics are simple, but nice and the game was funny, especially the puke-option. ;)

CosmoQueen

Nice lil game. Great message at then end "Don't drink.....too much" LOL
KPop and AGS....................that is my life.

Not bad! Certainly a good start. There were a couple of issues that I had:

Spoiler
I tried from the beginning to reach inside the hole in the tree and find something, and felt a bit gypped when I figured out that I had to LOOK AT it first. I figured it was part of a later puzzle.

Similarly, the box of nails was way to hidden for my taste. I INTERACTED with the shelves, and didn't get anything; I figured that this meant that there wasn't anything on the shelves that I could take.

Aside from that, I can only criticize the fact that the game uses the Sierra P&C interface, which I frankly don't care for. Otherwise, though, it's a very solid little game; I'll be looking forward to the stuff you make in the future.

EDIT: I should point out that I really liked the visual gag with the dog leaving the doghouse. I laughed out loud there.
