Title: *UPDATE SEE BOTTOM POST* C+C on my games 'unique' style
Post by: Chicky on Fri 21/11/2003 18:17:04
Hi ppl chicken here,

I was wondereing if i could get some c+c on a screenshot of my current game. I am going for a cartoony fell with a little amount of colours, i chose blue because the game's set in a snowy scene.

the long thing is a hatstand, the hat is atchally a lampshade taken from the lamp to the right.

the thing in the top right corner is a window, and the shadow is pointing outside making a strange face shape on the wall.

It makes sense in the game ... honest, its all part of a big puzzle.

erm... the [ img] and [ /img] tags are needed, less the spaces.

I really like the style. very original, very non boring. I would definitly look into a game with this style.  keep up the good and yet so simple work.  nice job

I love it. The way the colors are refined, the basic-ness of it. Its just so cool. A little 'too' wacky maybe but still looks awsome.

The lines have a very nice Dr Seuss feel.

I'd put the wall-floor dividing line over the shadow though.

Those blue shadows in the corner could be extended a bit too - I think you could use them to better indicate the exits to the room, or to show that the light is on. Perhaps colouring the bulb yellow might help there too - I know it throws off the blueness, but a single colour picked out like that can work with the style.

The main character looks a bit wonky too. I'd like to see him animated. I guess I'd better wait for you to finish the game, eh?

Thats what I was thinking. It's like looking at a Dr Seuss book or something. All you need is the Cat in the Hat and the Grinch and you're set.

That looks pretty good. I really like the style. The palette of colors is really nice. Although you're going for a nice simplistic style, I think it could use a little more shading. For example, there should be a slight shadow around the base of the light (at least I think so), and also on the hat and hat-stand. As SteveMcCrea said, I also think the wall line should still go through the shadow of that hat-stand. The stairs also look a little funny, if that's what they are. Finally, if the thing in the upper-left corner is a window, then I think the shadow needs to react differently on it. Sadly, I am not sure how it should be, I just know that it doesn't look right.

I did a quick edit to show you what I'm talking about, but I'm sure you could do it better:

wwweird... I think I wouldn't play it, because even looking at the pic makes me losing sense of reality and making me feel that I'm having a dream or something... real cyberpunk, man.
But It's original and looks really good. I wish you luck!

hehe - and as there's superpopular game "Dragon Lore", you could name yours to "Drugger Lore"....  ;)

thanks skummy (can i call you that?)

only if its in a positive sentance, such as, I think I'll vote for Skummy for president.

But I think more people are used to seeing scummy or scummyb

but hey, go nuts. I can join the ranks of a bunch of our agsers and be a man with a thousand names.  My dreams have come true.

Anyways, yeah, keep up this art style. Its very creative.

I like it. The only minor gripe I have are the white dots in the black area at the right end of the line that seperates the floor from the wall. Or is that intentional, to make it look more pencil-drawn?
