Well, what do you think? :)

The first one is Toe Jam, from good old sega's Toe Jam & Earl.
The second one is a samurai (Duh!  ;D ).

I love your rendition of Toe Jam!

Now, your second char, within the first second of seeing it hurts my eyes. Not that its a bad character at all, but I think I tacked that down to the use of black outlines. I think if you replace them with a darker color of the clothing/weapon of it, then the character could be finished!

Great job!
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I think those black outlines fit the character perfectly.
At first glance the black nose line looked a bit awkward though, since the outlines of his face and hands are in a darker shade of the skin colour. However, I'll take it to be intended, if that nose line used a darker skin colour, it might make the nose "blurred into the face" and less noticiable.

Only problem I see is, you drew fingers on his right hand but not the left one.

Excellent color usage!
There's just three problems with samurai:

* no fingers, as noted before
* foot blends into shoe too much
* even though black outline on nose was needed to bring it out more, it sticks out too much now

Out of crits now! Reason: too good work

Yummy! That could be a good game, artistically thinking.

Here, all I did was adjust some of the continuity issues with the sprite, as some of the others suggested.  You have an excellent style, but you want it to be consistent, so if you show the fingers on one hand you should show them on the other, the feet should be proportional to the hands and show the toes, etc..  Very nice work, really.
