took me 2 months to finish this but here you are. everything is modeled on the jeep to work so undernieth is all the suspension and transfer shafts and the jeep is setup with a physics engine to be able to drive itself. Let me know what you think

Wow that looks great! The only thing I can spot is that top of the jeep looks so undetailed. The texture seems to just have one plain color. Maybe you could throw in some more detail on it. The color of it also doesn't match with rest imo. Maybe that softer blue color you already used would work better.
For the rest it looks great to me. I'm trying to become a modeller myself too and hope to become this good too. So far I haven't gotten much further then creating textured cubes.
The tires looks great, same with the board and what we can see of the suspension. They're nice and smooth and the textures are fantastic. But the body looks bad. It's really blocky, especially the grill. The top looks very unfinished. No wipers, no vents, and overall bad texture. I wouldn't mind seeing some close ups of everything. Those tires look great.

Wow! That looks very cool! My only complaint is that the interior or the car is pretty bland and unfinished-looking, but everything else, especially the wheels, look superb!
It's quite realistic, but you've forgotten the small woman dropping her kids off at school.
The mud looks terrific, but there's so much dirt and wear on the tyres, and the image is so busy where the mud splatters onto the door, I think the upper chassis looks impossibly clean.
I think you could either add wear to the rest of the jeep a little, or forget about the mud altogether. Particularly with the very crisp shadow, a bold, clean look could work nicely.
Your "jeep" looks more like a Suzuki than a Jeep.Ã, But other than that, I like it.

@Evil, Steel Drummer, Ali-- yeah. i spent alot more time on the undernieth of the jeep than on top. Getting all the parts to work was the hard part and it will be seen from undernieth more than from above and also seen at night so i can get away with some lack of detail. but ill definately be adding in the wipers

@ciborium-- i use the term jeep not as the name "Jeep" but as the type of vehicle it is. its a 4X4 vehicle if thats better for you hehe. It is a suzuki samurai.

if you put all that hard work into the engine, it would be nice to "pop the hood/bonnet"and take a look at that.
as well the mud texture on the wheels is nice, but it looks like just that, a texture. not much depth to it.
You need springs over the shock absorbers.
And a steering rack.

Looking at those first chassis shots I though, "Wow his is pretty close to these pictures." :D Everything looks fantastic.
Your modelling is quite professional, but I totally hate the vinyls on the 4x4. It's a headache!
Also, it doesn't go with red interior.
the dirt on the tires is just a texture. I dont have the luxury when it comes to render time to have modeled dirt on my tires

as for the stearing rack there is one. its just that those chassis shots were very early in the process. Took me a while to find a decent reference shot of an undermounted leafspring setup.

SteveMcCrea: All Samurai (at least Stateside,) had leaf springs front and rear, no coils. Also, all had recirculating ball steering gearboxes with linkage, not rack & pinion steering.
Da_Elf: I know your model is modified, but they also all had the axles over the leaf springs, not under them. But I don't think that there are any left that are still in that original configuration. All the ones I see go through my shop have had the spring-over conversion done (or at least they all left that way.) They also all seem to be wearing 31x10.50x15 SuperSwampers.
i saw the underspring modification on a site. the guy said he got a couple of inches lift from it and since this jeep will be used in a scene where its driving offroad on sand dunes i though that giving it a bit of lift would have been cool. One of the other major modifications i will do is to give it wider tires but ive already gone onto modeling the other stuff for that scene and ill do all the final modifications when im ready to compile the final scene
I hope you post a link to that scene when it's finished. It ought to be cool!
