Have been working on these two midis for say about 1 hour each. Personally, I think that they turned out pretty well. Please have in mind that I started doing music just a half-year ago.
But anyway, now I have decided to throw the pieces out on the net - just to check that I'm not compleatly tonedeath.

The first one was inpired by the movie Sin City and it's music. Is it to messy? You tell me...

Here is it

The second one reminds me of a random bossfight.

I'ts here...

Tell me exactly what you think! Thank you...

Sorry for the bad english... ::)

Edit: The first link should work now

Hey,

The 1st track won't load, but the second one seems pretty good, although i have a few crits. My main concern is that it lacks a real punchy beat or tempo, to say it's a boss fight theme. I think it really needs a stronger beat, as at the moment it feels like a prologue for something bigger. Also, it seems to take a long time to build itself, whereas i'd guess boss fight music should be something that builds pretty quickly, as you're thrown into the action. Keep it up!

I like the second one. While not quite suitable for a boss fight, it might work well in a more action-orientated sequence in an adventure game.

Thank you for the replies, I wasn't saying that the song was meant to be a boss theme, but when I was finished making it, it reminded me of a boss theme, thought, it is a quite good idea to give it a more punchy sound. I'll look in to that...

I'm not home at the moment, but i'll try to fix the first songlink when I get home later today, because that piece is the one I'm most concerned about....

I was able to download the first tune, but the file was corrupted or something, Media Player wasn't able to play it.

The second one is quite nice. I like how the tune builds up, but the bass line gets quite repetitive towards the end of the song. Same goes for percussions. Add variation to the drums, add hihats etc. Just don't go overboard with them.

Try to experiment with melodies, I'd like to hear different instruments playing different melodies. If you were to use it as a boss theme, then follow DanClarke's suggestions. It could work quite well in a cutscene or actionish sequence the way it is, like SergioCornaga said.

Keep up the good work, I don't think my tunes were anywhere near that good when I had been making music for half a year.

I think they're both pretty cool.

I agree that in the second one the bass gets repetitive, although it did so for me earlier than the end. Also, it takes a while to build and what it builds to doesn't seem to justify the long wait. It's a bit anticlimactic.

It takes 30 seconds (1/3 of the piece) for the chords to come in. I would suggest bringing them in sooner, and having them continue to do something during the orchestra hits, to give the whole thing a more cohesive feel. Right now it feels a bit scrambled with different instruments coming in and then stopping completely to make way for other instruments. It might build and climax more satisfactorily if you built each instrument on top of the last, instead of having them all sectioned off that way.

If you're wanting to use it for a lower-energy scene, though, it might work pretty well as is with just a little variation to keep the bass and percussion from becoming too repetitive.

The first one is a little repetitive as well, although I like the interplay between the bass and the melody quite a bit. My suggestion would be to vary the bassline form (while maintaining the same rhythmic feel) when the chord changes come in so that it sounds more different from the first section. I would also vary the melody (but not the bass) about halfway between the beginning and the chord changes, to keep things fresh in the interim.
