Title: A portrait
Post by: The Book on Thu 03/02/2005 20:59:46
I don't know if it qualifies...

I made this image using GIMP, in my spare time. Feel free to criticise the picture and insult its author.  :P

I like this - very creative. I like her sweater. Very nice use of texture. I wouldn't change much - back graonds a little stale though.

Your mother dresses you funny!

On to critiques:

1. She needs a nose, not just nostrils.

example of how to do this simply:

It's just three curved lines, but it plainly looks like a nose.

2. She has a teeny tiny neck. The neck is usually about a third of the width of the shoulders, and the head is just barely wider.

3. Turn down the opacity on your dodging. When a colour goes white, you're dodging too light. Hey, that rhymes!

Hey! I have a sweater like that. In fact, I'm wearing it right now!

Not necessarily. Several French comic book artists tend to represent noses by just the nostrils. Check out this image (http://dugueta.club.fr/Images/Laureline/front1.JPG) by Jean-Claude Mezieres, and this one (http://www.tabaccheria21.net/RaccoltaImmagini/manara2.jpg) by Milo Manara.
