A short midi (Banjocore Metal!!1!1!)

Hey

I've been experimenting around in Guitar Pro (a midi program good for guitarists) and decided to write an existing song of mine in it as a practise (I already have the full music and words planned out, just not recorded yet).

Well, it sounded very plain with just one guitar because there aren't any vocals (this is a midi after all), so I decided to add something more to it to see how it sounds. So I added a... banjo. A friend of mine called this "Banjocore Metal" (he was obviously joking).

This is so much different than the idea I had in the beginning. I wanted a slow, dark metal vibe, but it turned out to be strangely cute and not really metal at all.

So, what do you people think about it? Any suggestions, critisism?

What if you had the banjo play a common banjo strum pattern and some other instrument play the melody (or vocals)?

I think that Greg is right about the banjo. It sounds great when you do these tremolos...

Other than that it is kinda empty, and I wiould probably change the bass sound. That is of course for a midi song...

I think it sounds empty because it's not the beginning or the ending of the song, maybe if I write the full thing the emptiness will go away, or at least some of it.

As for the bass, what do you mean exactly? Change the melody, change the rhythym, change the volume or change the bass instrument (eg use acoustic bass or fingered bass)?

Well about emptiness I mean that you have some drums, a guitar, a bass and a little banjo. That's all. At least to me it seems that you could put in another guitar, or something. But if things change at the refren then it's fine, since this is the verse...

About the bass, just louder.

And of course you can understand that with midi, you can't make an amazing sound, no matter what you do. That's what I mean by "that is of course for a midi song". It would sound great with real instruments...
