Hello! I'm back, better than ever!Ã,  Ã, Maybe not... You have any suggestions on what i can add on this bg?

I feel its kinda empty... But i dont know what i should add :-\

It depends on what the background is used for. What's the goal? Writing a little more info about it could get you a more helpful critique.

If the house is supposed to be the focal point, it should be bigger.

Ah... Sure! :P It's not really for a game. I just played around with artgem, and got pretty satisfyed with it. I tried to make it look like some sort of south-european landscape (italy, greece, spain etc etc.) I am just trying to upgrade my art-skills.

You mean like a vaguely Mediterranean country? ;)

There's like a greenish haze over the landscape - maybe the sun should be higher for that effect, other than that I think it's good use of atmospheric perspective.
I'd suggest you add things that make the landscape look more lived-in. If it's rural, maybe there would be stone fences, cultivated fields, olive trees, a vineyard, sheep, animal throughs, a pond, a well, a barn, vehicles or tools, otherwise maybe just flowers or something to identify who lives in the hut, or maybe temple ruins or statues in the distance, or a crossroad in front. Are the mountains covered with trees, or are they extremely steep grass-covered hills? More details to them, as to the rest.

Sorry for rambling on, hope it gave you some ideas.

The transition from field-with-house to mountains-in-background is odd. As if the field rises up sharply, but there's nothing in the field itself to suggest that. Especially the house makes the field look as if it's horizontal, not sloping up towards the back.

Hope this makes sense.

I'm sorry, I couldn't come up with a paintover in your style (not that this paintover would be MY style ^^), but it should be okay to show you, how to arrange a background, that it doesn't look so empty.

The path in the foreground is complete shit; forgive me. It still is a bit empty and here and there a bit sloppy, but I didn't have the time doing something more elaborate. But maybe it helps you. I used ArtGem as well ... this program kicks ass ;)

cheers

Also, you'd think they'd leave some kind of shadow on the valley, withe sun being quite much begind them...

Thanks for the replies folks. The hills in the background where kinda supposed to be far away, not fused with the plains where the house is. Any idea how i should make this more clear? Or maybe i should just change it to more like what nihilyst did.

nihilyst: Thanks for the paintover! I dont care if its my style or not, as long as i get the idea :)

I'm working on an edit now. Just keep the critics flowing :)

Try making them bluer.  Things that are far away often have a blue cast to them.

(Also, if they're supposed to be really far away, they should probably be short and sit directly on the horizon... the horizon should also be moved up a little from this angle, maybe around 20px, since the camera is looking up and over the hills.)

Okay... Finally got an edited version ready :P

Added:
- more trees
- the thing where farmers and stuff plant their stuff (if you know what i mean)
- some sheep
- a cave/mine thingy
- clouds

Removed:
- ugly sun in the background
- "mountains" in the background
- emptiness

So what do you think of it now? Anything i should add/remove or edit? Paintovers are very welcome :)

Tomb Raider

The sky and the grass need s a bit more shading to add more depth to the scene. The little farm looks really nice, and I love the clouds too. You also might want to add a light source, the whole scene seems a bit too neutral. Overall good job! :)
