comments would be apprecaited..but be nice..its my first attempt! I'm not that artistically inclined

Nacho

It's an interesting style, but...

It' s too big.
It' s too "dirty" (You should need to delimitate the edges... Otherwise the "halos" around the sprite will create a weird glow that will look odd in the background)
Skin is too blue.
Eyes are too red.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

well..im going for a blue skinned menacing alien kinda look

Illustrious

Totally agree with Nacho, this post had got me slightly wound up and I had to reply to you.
I really don't understand what you are trying to achieve here...

You have to scrap this picture or use it as a reference for something alot smaller, if you are intending to use it in your own game then I suggest you research other peoples charactors which have been critiqued, some superb material on this forum, there should be everything you need at your disposal here.

Go back to pencil and paper before pulling out the airbrush in MSpaint, good charactor design comes with many hours of practising, find free art tutorial ebooks, study anatomy, research aliens to use for references, study clothing textures etc...
I look forward to seeing some progress from you my friend, you seem to have the desire, you just need the patience and perseverence! GOODLUCK

Nacho

If you put a little effort into looking for Mr. Colossal profile, follow it to his website, and then browse a little bit more for "How to get sprites from scanned pencil sketches" you' ll find a good tutorial to start with that style.

I think it looks absolutely brilliant, and definitely quite artistic (despite what you say), but - as people have remarked - it is not very practical. But I do love the style.

sameera

If you just look at the face. I think it is brilliant. Of course there are lots of pencil marks and stuff. The legs don't look too good either. But I like it very much. If you fix these stuff and keep the face I think it would turn out really well!! ;)

Andail

Unless you're into some sort of psychedelic expressionism, this isn't functional at all.
You called this a sprite, and with that in mind, calling it "brilliant" is either shameless flattering or the result of some drug consumtion.

Start out nice and simple, with clear outlines and recognisable shapes. Read some tutorials, study some basic anatomy be patient.

Brad Newsom

What Andail said plus checking out how sprites are done in other games would greatly help. All I see is a mess of random pixels and a so called outline. Also, I see a lot of wasteful colors.

Anteater

I actually like it. But, from the  looks of it, you're going to have a nasty white halo around the sprite when it's used in-game.
