Tuomas

Eh... where's the pic? At least I can't see it...

Candle

Tuomas

Nice, but where does his hand come from? It looks a bit odd doesn't it...
And candle, you listen to Bruce Dickinson don't you. ;)

Seems pretty pointless to buy a tablet and use it for paint, assuming you used MSPaint. Whatever rocks your boat, I guess. It may come in handy when hand drawing in paint, but I find it odd to be using a graphic artist's tool and use an amateur program like paint.

KrisMacDee

Sorry for the picture not working! :-[ It was visible atÃ,  first but I guess thats what you get from free webs.com! ;) But anyway back to the pic.
Tuomas the arm comes from god knows where! But oh well...
ildu it was mspaint but at the time i did it my photoshop wasn't working so i just used paint. It's working now though, and i scanned a drawing and I am colouring it in photoshop.Let's hope it comes out OK! :-\

Hey!  MSPaint can crank out some really awesome pictures if yous spend time with them!!!  They may look retro, but hand drawn gradients are much more appealing in the end!

(and besides, MSPaint is free)

i am known on some domains as the 'master of paint' so that makes me on your side  8)

Kinoko

Sure, you can do some nice things in paint, but you can do those same nice things in a more complete paint program too, as well as a billion other things.

If you're after actual critique... it's a nice pic, but it'd be even better if you tightened the lines up, made that arm come from a realistic direction and added some shading (solid line shading). Try it, and I bet that pic will look 10 times better! :)

Nikolas

I'm not a portrait artist, but I think that the hand is not exactly out of place: It's actually too small. It should go much further up. The reason it seems out of place is that the shoulders appear only a little in the pic and so you assume that this is where the hand starts: so it should be twice the size of this one.

At least, that's what me, ignorant, thinks...

Mordalles

if i can give you some crit. Perspective, perspective and proportion

try giving the arm a shape not so straight, arm gets thinner nearer to hand. The fingers two, try and insert the finger segments, it'll look a lot more realistic.

Unless your style demands the straightness.

wooeee... thats a lot of posts to reply to! Akumayo i think you have a point but paint does have it's limits. But it is a handy program for sprites.Kinoko thank you for your comments but I actually did use hard line shading but i suppose I didn'tÃ,  make the shading dark enough or the picture large enough!
nikolasideris the arm i think is actually out of place. The arm is supposed to be going towards the view point.but thanks for your insight anyway! ;D
Mordalles the arm is bent(i think....) but out of view. But i see what you mean about the hand being a bit small.

[Takes deep breaths]
Like i said a err... exactly a week ago, i will put a scan (which i am at the moment  doing)computer coloured on here but I will try to find some time to finish it.
Well thanks for all your crits.

having never being blessed with money (or a new computer), i have never used that holy grail, photoshop. i cant speak of its advantiges, but paint can do better then you might think. sprites can look just fine with it, and it makes you think before you do. i LIKE paint, ( the way a prisoner LIkes to draw on prison walls as his fave rave medium) I would like to own better, but I cann't and I like what I do do.
