The last few daysÃ,  I worked on this:

Some of you might even recodnize it. It's a remake of an old Space Quest 2 screen.

I am not planning on making a remake or anything, this is just a test if I can do something like this...

I don't have much things left - the foreground bushes and that cliff...  I've been struggling with that cliff for too long. So help me... please.
Feel free to critic everything - colours, shading... Paintovers would  be extremely helpfull.

Esterlin

You've chosen a pretty hard game-style, Sierra games have a weird realistic feel to the rendering -- and still, you made an amazing job :)

Here's some help to the cliff using a pale antialiased brown brush with 3 variant color tones :

I did this really quick to give you some ideas.

1.  Removed the old sq texture and made my own.
2.  Made the grass hang over the cliff as it should.

What I would recommend is getting rid of the dark outlines on the grass and such to make the scene fit together and not look so much like set pieces.  You can see some examples of where I used the highlight color in place of the dark outline to make the grass and branch near the cliff fit more into the background.  You've done a great job here, hopefully this will help!

I think it needs the black foreground like in the original. The foreground brought style to the seirra games in my opinion.

Afflict

Its a really nice piece!

All in all I think youve got it covered by now with the advice given.

Cluey

Yeah, I'm always intrigued by these VGA remakes of EGA backgrounds.  Very nice.

Looks good!

I made about 1-2 years ago the following remake of the same background, even though it was not entirely made by just me. You can compare it with your own background if you want.
