:: ADDED NEW CHARACTER ... CHECK PAGE 2 ::
I've been working on this fu*ker for awhile and it's driving me crazy.
I just can't seem to get it to look right.
This is my latest iteration:

What is wrong with it? It just doesn't look right ... I'm happy with everything but the legs, however, all c&c is welcome and appreciated.
cheers,
darth
Well, to me it looks good.
I tried a version with him keeping the back leg put an extra frame, but I am not sure how it would look in-game.
Just an idea really.
(another one with him pushing the extra one further back):

good job btw.
the foot needs to be smaller when its behind him i guess.
It looks like some kind of dance he's doing. Maybe a fandango?
His expression is pretty grim though.

I tried a different approach. This only has six frames of animation but I think it looks better.
Is this an improvement? (I'm going to put a little arm sway in too)
darth
I think the new animation looks more realistic. In the first one, it looked like he was just kicking his legs back and forth. Now it looks like he's walking. It looks good..
I'm not so sure you need to moce the legs from side to side, though. I think it would look better if tou just kept the legs in the same horizontal position.
I think Ben is right. Keep the legs horizontal. Combined with the original swaying arms it will be a kick-a**e animation.
here's my first stab at the side animation ...

I think you missed a frame, he is limping. :P Or maybe you intended it that way. I like the art though.
Hollister ... I don't notice a limp ... hmmm ...

Added arm sway and removed leg shifting ...

Still not looking quite right to me ...
darth
Heh, yeah it does look like he's limping. like it's missing a frame when he starts over from the first point again....
but all in all game-worthy, good job man.
I'll explain a little better. On the side view, when the front leg is swinging forward, it looks like it goes a little faster than the other goes forward on its turn. It just gives the impression of a slight limp. Over all, though , great job.
I like the one with the leg shifting better :/ but the side view and army sway are ok
If this is a poll... Ditto Hotshot. :) That extra pixels really did IMO a nice job.
Darth, I think I've figured something out that would really help the down/forward animation.
When you walk and swing your arms your shirt invariably shifts from side to side. The pocket/row of buttons should also move a pixel or two over whenever the arms move.
That may make a big difference. Right now, it looks kind of like he has a static torso with two arms hovering at the side. The shirt moving a bit would help unify all the pieces.
PenguinX - Thanks! I was meaning to do that anyway ... but had forgotten! So thanks!
Farlander, Hotshot - Thanks! I liked it better too and was going to change it back. Sorry Heuij and Ben ... I just like it better this way!
Hollister,Squinky - I'm going to rework the side animation soon ... I'll see about de-limping him (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_grin.gif)

I'm really happy with how it looks now!!
d
that was a great walkcycle. btw, your next post will be your 400th one
He looks very purposeful. Very strident.
Now that's the ticket!
It's looking great. He really seems to be jumpin' and jivin' now.
There is still something wrong with it. During the loop there is only one frame that has his head at the lowest point instead of two. In your original animation you had that right.
I've been working on this for a few hours ...

Personally, I really like it. However, as is usual, you guys can help me make it even better!
C&C please.
dm
Looking good! One thing: the shirt is going side to side WAY too much, especially since his waist isn't rotating at all. Try making it not so exaggerated.
I have taken out some of the sway ... although I don't know if this looks too jerky?

EDIT - I tried something else ... I like this a lot more!

I can´t really choose between one and other... >:(
But looking closely, I see the only "black spot" in this animation (The only and unique, IMHO :)) is the black blob supossed to be the shoes´ soles... I think it´s too big, whereas the movement of the leg is not enough radikal to show all that sole. What do you think, guys?
Wow! :o
Great work, DM!
I prefer the first one. I think it fits the upper-body movement better than the second one.
