I'm putting the last things of my Demo, and I have some problems with the techniqs to draw a Planetscape (this is the name? the exterior view of a planet as a landscape?)

Here is the thing I did yet.

I think possibly the color of the space is bad, And can change. The more important thing to make combinate space and planet, is the classical Damm horizont skyline, But I don't know how to do it. I use Pain Shop pro, and some time ago I view a tutorial for photoshop, but I didn't understand nothing to apply in PSP, and finally lost the tutorial.

To make the planet simply I make gradient lines, and later, apply a Opac texture over.

Some help?

Lots of thanks ;)

I think the main problem is the gradient. Looks like you have used a linear gradient rotated by 45° but the planet is a sphere. So the lines of shadow/light especially near the horizon have to be bended (I don't know how to explain better, maybe you could experiment with radial gradient?)

Oh, and maybe this tutorial could be useful for you:

Greg Martin also has a great planet tutorial.

Both of his tuts helped me getting started with space pics, but I do things my own way now. Try the tuts, then adapt what you learn to your style.

Putting the atmosphere on a planet is tricky, especially if your image has a decent restriction on the number of colors. I've seen guys that can pixel in a very convincing atmosphere, but I'm not really a pixel-pusher. Best I could ever really do is to do a final image of just the planet and the gradually reduce the colors and touch up the results as I went. I'll try to post some examples for you if you'd like, when it's not 5:30 in the morning. :D

I have did the gradient of the planet by hand... In the texturized version it only see a little, but I think when I do the brigth skyline it not be very important.

Without the white-blue skyline of the planet, Yes, the space seems Too blue and the planet too brown, but I have to do the skyline to think later in change the space.

The tutorial 'bout making mars ç*is the tutorial I see time ago (what I said) but is a tutorial for photoshop, and I'm lost making something seem with Paint shop Pro. I think If I got a decent skyline, the rest can do by me own... But now I'm trying and trying and no decent possibility of making a good skyline U_U

Why don't you try Gimp? It's free and it is much better than PaintShopPro.

Good art isn't dependent on what program you use.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

I never used gimp, and i'm a little afraid of Start knowing a new program, and my computer is a little "touched".... a little breaked, I don't know how to say it xD

Actually I done a new version of the planetscape, I'll edit the post and show it, I have no time now, thanks for the idea ;)

True, but it provide tools to make creating art a little easier. Im more of a Photoshop fan than anything else.

Honestly, if your doing a planetscape, just go on google and look for photos planets. Various elements like Light Diffusal caused by the Atmosphere, or the Atmosphere itself giving a gassy extra layer look to the planet. Lots of stuff should be taken into consideration.
