Title: Background And title music
Post by: Bad Voo-doo man on Sat 26/03/2005 01:21:01
This is the main Title screen for my new game...:

This  (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/HL_Credits_Closing_Theme12.mid)will be played in the background.

It's still a WIP, but I would like as much C&C as you guys can find the time to give me ;)

p.s. The words, "Click to start" will slowly fade in after some time (In the actual game)

Wow, that looks great! How did you do the hellblaze?
Only C&C I can think of is that the text doesn't really match the feel of the screen. Maybe you could try changing the silver to something more reddish...

That screen is... just...Ã,  :o

And the music too. It sounds very good for a midi!

wel, i like the Picture, but not the Midi.

It sort of makes you go crazy in the beggining, the same tune over and over again...

the starting sound which keeps on going the rest of the song, could need a little modification, like not making it a little quieter for the other instrument to fit in.

i may be giving wrong C&C cause i am using Sound Blaster card, so the music may sound different from time to time, you have to remember that Midis can change completely with other cards.

For the Hellblaze, I used photoshop...
1) render > clouds
2) render > difference clouds
3) render > lighting effects > Flashlight
4) render > Lighting effects > Blue omni > set tabs (Under "Style" to 100, except the last, set to 50
5) Cntrl + i to invert the colors
6) Distort > Polar coordinates > rectangular
and thats about it ;)

Thanks you guys for the C&C, I'll mess around with the sound and try changing the text, i'll keep you posted

Love the midi. Don't change it. It's of outstanding quality for such a small file size.

As soon as I saw the image I was determined to say "convert it to mp3 - midi sounds crap and won't suit a pseudo-photo-realisitc background", but you've proven me wrong. The very very beginning bugs me a little, but once it kicks in with the drums, it's a masterpiece.

You do realize the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is being released in about a week (er, so I believe), right?

Aside from that, both the image and the midi are really great!  Great work, honestly!

Lol, I completely forgot that Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Was comming out when I started this (even with me being a huge fan of splinter cell 1 & 2 for xbox) but since this is just a fun project, and not something that Im going to sell or anything, I just left it :)

Ok, I want my game to still be about the Chaos Theory (you know, were things just happen..no laws or anything basically) but I think I should change the name, so...Lets turn this into a any ideas for a name thread :=

I wouldn't worry about Splinter Cell. They don't have a copyright on "Chaos Theory" after all.
For everyone complimenting the music - read the name of the midi. :=

About your background:

Looks ok, but it is simplest photoshopping. there are tons and tons of tutorials on how to do those on the net. and the text effect is a simple font with a quick blending mode/gradient overlay. To do the background you render clouds, edit the colors ( press ctrl+u ) and put it on colorize... Then you do that distortion->polar coordinates effect and that's it. this is just guessing, but doing that will give you exactly what you have there.

To somebody who does not know any photoshop / professional image editing at all this may look cool and professional, but everybody else will recognize that this stuff is very basic...

For example on: www.good-tutorials.com there are tons of tuts on how to do stuff with three mouse clicks that look just like your pic...

Well, I just did something easy like that because I thought it looked cool :), and I can't draw and don't really know how to do anything else with photoshop
