Title: Background Critiquing
Post by: pickelkiller8 on Mon 23/06/2008 15:17:05
Wow it's been a while since I've posted on Big Blue Cup and now that I'm finished exams
I will hopefully do so more often, but I digress. Here is a new background of mine for a concept game I am toying with. Criticize not my sprite (for he is not finished) but anyone who could drop some helpful tips for my background would be greatly appreciated:)

Well, it looks very two-dimensional. The grass should get darker as it's going towards the mountains. And those shouldn't be shaped like cones, but rather like these:

So more or less add multiple peaks and make it not so uniform, aright.

Yeah, somehow.

And I don't know if the sky in your picture is supposed to be that psychedelic, but it doesn't really fit the rest. The ground for example is much to bright in contrast to the sky.

Another point would be adding some details like rocks, bushes or trees...

Actually the two screens adjacent to this one have such details but I decided to show at another time. This one is just a straight forward scene there for the sake of having a scene;)

There should be an area between the ground and the mountains where the grass should get darker, more bumpylike and somehow form the foothills of the mountains.

Thank you for the advice, it really is helpful. I'll probably have to take it apart and play around with it a while to find a new groove that incorporates those suggestions, but dare I ask is there anything I could improve with the path (color, texture, scale, etc.)?
