Been working on this for a couple of days. It's my first bg and some feedback would be nice. I know the perspective is pretty strange, but thats what I wanted. Not sure about clouds/trees.
Feedback appreciated.

real quick before i got to bed
you have yellow setting [rising?] sun on the left that is affecting the clouds and that's it.
the rocks are being hit with white light along with everything else when the sun is totally not white at the moment..
the beach is totally flat, no dunes or bumps or anything, just straight to the water. The sand even goes straight where the rocks touch it and the water at the same time.
the right side [forgetting that the light is awkward from the sun] looks great and i really love the trees
and oh lordy you don't know how good it is to see clouds that aren't direct rips from Curse of Monkey Island... Thank you thank you thank you.
oh and the lighthouse[?] at the top of the rock. Does it extend past the scene into a tower or is that it? a squat little cylinder? cause if it doesn't extend past the scene I'd strunch it down more cause now it's touching the top of the screen in an awkward way
I like the background and i think it's really cute and well drawn and if I saw it in a game I wouldn't really care about the things I wrote above because I'd be playing the game. But, obviously, this is the critics lounge.

I agree with what's been said and would like to add that I love the perspective! Very refreshing :)
I'm not sure if I like the stones on the path, though.

(i) Made the sunset a bit more dramatic, mainly just to let it illuminate the rocks which Mr C adviced and to create more variation (I m guessing this will scroll from left to right?). Just fiddled with 'Blend channels' in PS.
(ii) Made the cloudy area less saturated. The saturated ground didn t really correspond to the sky there, and less saturated colors adds more gloom to it.
Really nice style btw.
Edit: Looking at it again i realise that my desaturation starts a too early. The perspective fooled me.
Edit: On third look, my edit stinks.
warg - this is the first proper piece of art I've seen from you, and I must say I'm very impressed. Despite the 'techincal' flaws,
I really love what you've done with the atmoshpere, creating a really fun environment. It reminds of something I've seen before,
(not sure what, or why I'm reminded of it) and it makes me feel like I'm 10 years old again, playing this great game with cute
backgrounds, and I'm eager to finish!

I forgot to mention how much I like the rock formations and the way you did those trees! Again, wonderful job!

Thought I would just do an update to this thread. This scene follows on from the last scene. Soory about the size but its a long image (is there a limit to how long an image should be in AGS?).
Once I get a bit more work done I'll probably abandon this thread and start one in 'works in progress', and post the backgrounds already seen with the advice taken into consideration. All critism is taken note of, so thanks for all the help.

And ah! As fas as I know no size lime, because the screen can scroll, but I might be wrong if the bg is huuuuuge (I think there won't be problems with this one)

G'day mate, first off, this is based heavily around the techniques explained here - http://www.twin-design.com/agsezine/issue5_garagegothic.cfm
Same basic prinicples, except mine is obviously alot more cartoonish, I think this is based largely around the preliminary sketch. I don't really like straight lines ;D
To use this method you need a scanner and a decent paint program (I use photoshop).
If there's anything I can help you with let me know, though I'm still fairly new at this (and totally new to AGS).

That is an awesome background. Im not sure that I can see much wrong with it, except making some of the grass a bit more interesting.
You have an awesome style, and in some ways similar to Igors, which is a good thing.

"making some of the grass a bit more interesting." - Yeh, I tend to agree with you there. I chucked in a noise filter but thats about it. I might take you up on that and add more detail to it.
"Are these for a game? Have you worked on any characters?" - yes and yes, I have a character thats up for C&C in this forum, probably a few pages back now. I'll start a thread in 'Works in progress' soon, as things are coming along smoothly at the moment. Actually the art side of things is pretty easy for me, its the scripting that I'm worried about :-\
