Hey everybody,

Take a look at this background I did and tell me what you think.

I'm pretty happy with it, but it look like it needs something else, I'm just not sure what.  ???

Well....let me know what you guys think.

i think overall it looks pretty great.

a couple points, however:

1) the bricks shouldnt all be lines up like that.  usually each row is offset by a half-brick length from the row before it

2) the box on the right looks too close to the wall to have any depth.  the other seem like they would be a bit shallow as well.

and finally,

3) the papers on the ground (especially the right by the light of the door) and the poster on the far left wall look a little cheesy with just lines for text.  try to go for a little more of a realistic effect. or at least straight lines so they don't look so fake.

other than that, looks great.  keep up the good work.

Unless the water is gushing out of the drain pipe, which i sincerly doubt, judging that its not raining... i would thin the water in some.

Nice pic.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Okay. Good points.

Take a look at the background now. Does it look better?

I might get rid of the puddle.

The yellow street lines seem to be pretty long.  And I would either move the puddle up under the pipe or just see about getting rid of it.

Okay I will shorten the street lines.

I think I'm just going to get rid of the puddle. It's not important to the game or the scene.

Do you think I should add any thing to the scene or does it look good the way it is?

Thanks.

I think the contrast of lit/shaded areas might be too strong. The perspective on the boxes still needs some correcting. Maybe add couple more patches on the wall where bricks are visible. Overall, it looks quite nice and functional.

Dumpster Tom

Please explain what you mean about the boxes perspective? or if you can show me what you mean.

Is this what you guys mean? (sorry its a jpeg)

Like this:

For proper depth perception, the lines should all lead to one vanishing point. This was taken from the angles of the walls leading to street, but it would probably make things easier to have it more closer to the centre.

Okay I see what your saying now.

let me fix it up a little and I post the results.

Thanks, you guys have been very helpfull.  ;D

Here's the first version.

Here's the latest version.

Does it look better now?

n3tgraph

wow, it looks a lot better
but now it's a bit too light i think  8)
and I'm not too sure about the cracks, the bricks showing is cool, but I'm not sure about the cracks
* N3TGraph airguitars!

cpage

I love the new one but I swear I've seen it before

Synthetique

dont touch the lighting! its perfect!

Neole

Looks great! I like the first version better, with the lighting of the second. If you remove the right side of the left wall entirely it would be more correct perspective wise, but it looks great anyways.

makri

Looks a lot better now. I think I'd try something different with the cracks too... Not sure what.

Dumpster Tom

Okay thanks guys.

You've all been a great help.

I'm going to put the finishing touches to this background and then I wll start the next one.

Thanks for the help.
