Shading of the Chinese boy

I finally come to the shading of the front and back view of this Chinese boy. However, I think it looks strange somehow.

Can someone tell me what are the problem of the shading? Thanks again!

It would help make the shading more obvious if you raised the contrast.

Here's a paintover... I think the black outline was the main issue, but I'm not sure. I also adjusted a few minor details, which I'll let you find.
