Title: Badass with cigar (link to tutorial included)
Post by: big brother on Mon 19/01/2004 02:59:34
Yo, dudes!

Found this neat tutorial about colorizing. Amazing stuff!

Since I was still curious after reading it, I decided to try it out. Here's my result:

It took me several hours to draw this from scratch (unfortunately, I don't have a scanner up here, so I had to freehand the outline).

This method would probably be pretty good for backgrounds...

Wow! This is such an amazing technique!! I'm going to practice this, in photoshop, though I'm considered to the real pshoppers, a newbie... but im really going to try, and whip up something, that looks fine to me.

Really nice.
My only remark would be the background...isn't it unnecessarily dark? I'd have choosen a much lighter grey, to not drown part of the image

Fantastic, dude!!! Man, that is absolutely amazing. Heh, there's not much more to say. I don't think the background is too dark. Lighter value would kind of mix with the character, I reckon.

I've actually read that tutorial before. I definitely like the end result - especially yours - but still I don't feel comfortable using dodge and burn tools. It's just that they don't take the hue variations much into consideration. Though I admit I'm not that good at those anyway but I want to learn.

Here's a method I've been using lately. It makes learning pretty fast. The tutorial is made by HPX - http://hpx1.free.fr/index.php .

Here's the actual tutorial. (http://runestone.adventuredevelopers.com/staff/Pessi/TrashCan/nopainnogainwip.jpg)

Wow, Pessi! That's an awesome tutorial. I can't believe that's only 30 mins. It really looks like a painting rather than a digital work.

Have you made anything cool with it?

Not just yet. I just rediscovered the tutorial/image a couple of days ago. It was just lying around on my HD in my 'amazing images' folder. This will be the technique I'll be using for my studies though. I hope I'll be able to post something here at some point.
