This is a little thing I am working on but I cant do the 3d effect on the pillars. Its meant to be a Roman Bath house. Hopefully one of you fellows can lend a hand. Other than that I am truely happy.

The pillars on the far left are totally flat  :P

Other than that, looks pretty cool.

So are the ones on the other side of the pool, but I think that's just because he couldn't make it look right...

And there are some perspective issues on the backrooms.

I think this greatly improves my first try! I used some effects in photo shop and it seems much better. What do you all think of the tiles?

As Yak pointed out, there are some perspective issues which need addressing.  I didn't touch those in my edits.

However, the biggest problem that I have with the image, is that the architecture isn't very roman ... looks more middle eastern maybe?  Also, the layout of a Roman bath house was slightly different than that (though this is a minor thing).

Here is a Google Image Search on "Roman Bath House" to give you some ideas.

Here's a quick edit I did to show what I mean:

Suggestions
- work on the perspective a bit
- add stone/brick textures to the walls and floors
- correct the architecture a bit
- avoide the black lines (unless you use them everywhere)

Hope this helps!

I love your columns!. I will try something like that, and use my effects.

EDIT: Here is the Semi-complete, First version.

A few things I think would help:

-The doors seem pretty small, the back ones in particular.Ã,  If you do want them that size though, make sure that the side and back doors are the same height (red lines on top of doors)
-The bath is slightly out of perspective I beliebe, and it might also help if you could see the bottom edge of the pool faintly through the water.
-Some of the columns have oddly shaped and angled bases.Ã,  Squaring them off a bit might help.Ã,  I also doodled a bit with one of the bases :)
-The side door was both behind a column and off centre from the pool steps, so I moved the door over to the middle and got rid of the column.Ã,  But you could have two doors either side of a central column instead.

I'm glad also that you used the special effects sparingly and in perspective, I think they look quite nice.Ã,  I hope some of these crits help :)

Yeah ... I meant to comment on the bases of the columns (in my edit).  I didn't adjust them for perspective.  They were just "scribbled" quickly and copy'n'pasted!  You'll definitely want to correct the perspective on them.

The new textures are a step in the right direction!

Now add some shading and hi-lights and this'll really start coming together!

Roman pillars don't have the twirled shape at the base. The base is basically squared with the round part extruding from the square base. The top of the pillars has the twirled things.

Also, you gotta work on that perspective.

Who said what? ;)

Everybody seems to have pin-pointed everything I would've suggested.  Again, the black lines.  I notice as you've improved the picture, more black lines are getting dropped.  The dark outlines would look alright if everything had them but with the smoother look of the pic overall, those door outlines need to blend a little more.

The perspective is fine for an old-style Sierra game (a-la KQIV) but you've essentially got an orthographic look there - it's tilted to show depth and 3-dimensionality without using diminishing points.  It's the blending of the two that's throwing it off.  If the doors were all the same height (more like the left one, assuming the characters are pretty small) then it'd help a bit.  Otherwise, the whole drawing's perspective needs tweaked.

The columns' bottom has already been addressed but there's an inconsistent look to them.  The furthest back look fairly 3-dimensional, but the ones towards the left look like rounded flat objects.  The best  thing to do is start the base with an ellipse and work up from there (you could do the addition to the columns on another layer and just merge the final product in order to avoid redrawing everything).  --unless-- you're going for an effect of having the columns emerge from the wall, in which case you'd just use 1/2 of 3/4 of the ellipse's bottom starting at the wall.

The private bath in the back clashes quite a lot with the perspective but this might be addressed simply by adjusting the doors.

Textures generally aren't recommended as they tend to make pictures look 2-dimensional, but you've used them to great effect.  They actually add something to it.  The main texture-type problems are near the west doorway, they don't blend well with the bottom (probably because they were done at different times).  I can almost imagine it's a wet-look effect except that it ends so suddenly.

The line at the bottom of the pool (after all, with water that clear, we could be able to see through it a little, right?) is really easy to address.  Take the pencil, select a color matching the border of the pool, set it to low opacity (like 25-40%) click one corner of the bottom, shift-click the other side on a straight horizontal path and photoshop'll draw the line evenly between the two points.
