Heres my quick beach

I have no idea how to draw a sky or sand.

What software are you using? For sand, you could use a gradient fill.

For the sky, it varies, since that's a matter of style.. some people like simplicity, some go for the rendered stuff.

If you don't have it and you're using MS Paint, get the gimp. It's free and awesome.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

..

For the sky u could just use a simple blue fill with a sun or even a gradient or anything... Justl ook out your window (Provided you don't live underneath seombody with overhanging flowers in an apartment) And llok.

As for the sand maybe add some noise...

Also, I could see this might work in a cutscene but in agame it would seem rather pointless, there isn't a lot going on.. (But i'm sure you know what ure doing)

If you're going for an ocean-type beach I would suggest making the water's horizon line flat.  Now, if you're planning on adding some land mass(es) on the other side, that are relatively close, it'll look alright.

Here's an attempt I made:

* added some horizon misting
* added some clouds
* added some sand details
* added some shading/shadows
* made the image 320x240

What about adding relatively commonplace beach items? Beach balls, volleyball net, chairs & towels, tiki huts, hotels, bars, seagulls, the sun... sail boats, docks...?

Blackthorne

Just a quick paintover I did.

I used some textures from another picture to give the beach texture.  Then I dodged and burned....Then I used some gradient colors for the water and the sky, and filled them with a texture too.  ALSO, I resized the screen for 320x200.  You really should pick a standard size for your BKGS, unless you DID want this to scroll.

Experiment with tools in your editing software. Most are fun!

Good idea :-\ but this is next to a deserted town so i dont want it to seem like anyone's here.

Haha, take Darth's sky and Blackthrone's sand and you have a winner!

And one more thing...make that sign a little smaller and don't put it right in the center.  Symmetrical scenes hurt my eyes....

Well in that case put some tumbleweed (or what ever you call it) to show it's deserted and make the sign more run down.
Guess who's back??

Too bad tumbleweed doesn't grow on beaches...so I guess that would show it's "a desert" rather than "deserted."

(chuckle)

Make the sign on the far left and make it broken and moulded over. Put lotsa rocks on the beach, and a few broken glass bottles.
