This is my first bg made al by my self. (no tutorial). It is a bedroom. It will be a room in my first game. It could use some c&c.

The room is still a bit empty because he is not yet finished. I look especially for c&c about the textures.
Tnx,

Looks nice, but as you mentiond in your post a bit empty.
You should remove the black pixels under the door and along the bottom of the right wall.
Nice, although I'm not too fond of the pink color. :)
I especially like the wall texture. How did you do it?
Shouldn't the door handle be the other way around? You know, the short part attached to the door?
And please, don't let the game start in this room. I'm sick of seeing heroes's bedrooms... ;D
This looks strangely familier.... I wonder where I saw it?
Yeah, the pink is a little bit too bright. Perhaps you should go with a nice dark green or dark blue colour instead to match with the carpet. And you should also darken the bed's sheets; they're a bit too bright for me.
For the room itself, yes, it does look empty. A couple of things you could add (in case you have no idea) are a desk, some plants, some pictures on the walls, wall lamps, floor lamps, wooden chests, a musical instrument or a piece of sports equipment, a window, etc.
And as for the textures, I love them, especially the wall. In fact, that texture is almost similar to one I used for my hallway wall.
The only thing you really need to focus on is the room's colours.
The wall texture looks very unrealistic to me because you have made the wood grain visible, yet it is pink. If someone painted wood pink, you would no longer see the texture - and I have never heard of pink wood stain.
I do not think that your method of applying texture is very effective here, I can see that you just used layers and cropped the texture to the size of the object...but you ignore the angle that the object is facing, so everything get's the "im facing front" texture. You either need to distort your texture with your program, or hand draw each face differently, or use solid colors, I think.
Also could do with some shading.

*ahem*
All of Remco's textures, in past and future pics are absolutely
handmade. No photo(shopping) here. Thanks. My word on it.
But yes, this is a bit wrong.
your drawers are out of proportion, if you look at the bed size, that would make yor chaacter about the same size as the drawers.

Ever heard of wallpaper or a foefinish ??? ??? ???

Remco Makes his own textures, that sentence doesnt belong in this thread, or this forum as a matter of fact. It neither helps with this image or is constructive. Next time leave it at, work on the texture angles.
I dont see anything wrong at all with it for a first bg.
Good job Remco
Just work a little bit more on shading, and the door is a little flat, add some hinges, a shadow under it and maybe a wood trim, it would help alot.
First i want to thank everyone who gave me some tips. I have tried to improve it.

Damien: I have removed the black pixels below the wall and door.
Strazer: I changed the pink into dark green. The wall texture was not difficult. I first draw a few lines over the wall, and then a make same brighten lines over it, and over again. I've made the door handle now to the other direction. And sorry, but the game does start in this room :D.
Losttraveler: i sended to you that yesterday afternoon remember?
Dart: Yes, i made it now dark green. I made the bed sheets some darker.
Stuh: Who says the wall is from wood? i have made the textures by my self. I have add some shadows, but i don't know if they are placed right.
Increater: Yes, that's right.
Danclarke: What do you mean?
Losttraveler: That's right, it is supposed to be a wallpaper. I tried to make the door less flat. I also tried to make some hinges, but that didn't work in such a low resolution bg.
Marked improvement, make the bed legs darker because currently they blend in to much with the shadow. There is a small inconsistancy with the shadows, the bed's goes down, while the dressers goes up.
I like the new version.
Just one thing, if the light source is somewhere above the bed then you wouldn't be able to see the bed's legs in the shadow.
Also fix the lightgreen pixels between the top side of the dresser and the wall.
So that's two things.
I've been working hard on this bg now for a few days. I've added some objects.

I would like some c & c on the (new) objects. I've been trying to add some shadow but i just didn't helped. Some help with that would also be welcome. The lightning source is the window.

There's something strange about that bed...I can'y put my finger on it, but yes...
Anyway, definite inprovement. It looks alot better now, Although I don't think potplants on a windowsill would be on the inside....more on the outside windowsill....yep....The back of the chair looks paper thin....maybe make it thicker...There are some runaway pixels on the shirt on the floor...perhaps edit them out...
Phew, I'm pooped out of C&C now....
EDIT: Yes, it's the blanket! It's the blanket on the bed that looks strange...
It really shows that you have spent time on this, Its looking really good.Yeah the blanket does look strange. YOu need a line there where it folds over the side of the bed. Yeah and you should try and thicken the back and legs of the chair, as they do look paper thin. Also on the bed heads.
Another thing, on the very bottom corner of the door, I think the wooden part running along the floor should be a few pixels bigger and cover the door just a little. And you should fix the top right corner of the desk.
Also, I don't know about where you live, but in australia, the power points are like flat along the wall. In your pic they look a little weird.
Good work.
I think that's an excellent job!
If you compare the first screenshot to the last - it's a brilliant change - well done!
If you've got a good story to go with this it'll work great!
But yes - the bed needs a fold line.... ;D
I tried some shading for you. First off, daylight is very diffuse light, therefor shadows won't be very dark and won't have very well defined edges. Just like in real life.
I drew lines from the corners of the windows to the objects on the opposite sides (in a seperate layer). I then filled the shadows in with black in new layers. I then lowered the transparancy of said layers to values ranging from 15-45%. I made a second version with more shadows and overall lower transparancy values. Judge for yourself which is better.
I blurred the edges of the shadows to give it more realism.
I have to add that some of the shadows drawn aren't entirely correct now that I've taken a closer look at my own work, but at least you know one possible way to go at it yourself.
A final nice touch would be to add direct light from the window on the carpet. A light coloured rectangle and beams of light. I wasn't able to produce this within reasonable time. Maybe you or someone else could have a stab at it.

It's chaos, but there's some fuzzy logic in it!

there are 2 problems with bed actually: with this view(perspective) its not parallel to both walls so it looks awkward, adn blanket looks round but it could be folded in some strange manner. nice work with the shadows DYDO
hey romc i posted , happy now ;) The shadow edit looks kuel, just fix the perspective and it'll look good. I think maybe you should raise the walls and add a celing, this would help with the perspective problem.
I am not a big fan of diffused shadows (though they are perhaps more accurate given the light source!)
I took a stab here ...

* altered the perspective on the bed
* added dimension to the walls
The compression stinks ... and I didn't save the PSD :(Ã, But you can see what I meant.
Just thought I'd contribute ...
