Well your character animation needs some work. But I'm not good at walk cycles so I cant help you there. But your backgrounds I can help with. The main thing is objects. Your rooms are boring. There's nothing in them. They need stuff. Maybe for the buildings like air vents or trashcans or maybe table or desk. The outsides need things too. Like street lights, benchs, or maybe a trashcan also. The sludge needs to be darked in that one large spot, unless it is radioactive or soemthing? There are some perspective issues too but I think you are doing pretty good. :)
Heh... I forgot one bg also.... And I know they are boring, but I was going to except it... but well, the air vents sounds like a good idea.... :) Thanks... And the scenes are outside of the city, so I wasn't going to put in any streelights... There was originally gonna be one in the start point, but when I changet the plot I abandoned the idea, and anyway it wasnt good enogh... but the powerplants front is meant to look that boring.... :)
Nice character :) The main char in the walking down animation needs to bob his head up and down though.
The backgrounds are very nice, they have an interesting style, but they're very dark, so it's hard to distinguish what's there. Instead of seeing a building with lit windows in the first bg, I just see lights in the air.
Here's an adjustment of the first bg, using some Brightness/Contrast Adjustments and color dodging in Photoshop:

It's still very dark but you can see the buildings.
I like the cursors too :)
Here's what it looks without the GIFfing messing the color: http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/tk/city_bitmap.gif
I needed to trick with this thing.... It's a .bmp file by original, but I just want to show the real colors, so see if you want...
I think the area map came out the best; the perspective and the overall feel of it is really good. Here are some crits: the trail looks very off... instead of making the trail a lighter shade of whatever color is underneath it, I think you should make it a dirt or cement trail. I think a dirt trail would look the best but it might not make too much sense if your game takes place in a city. Also the light on the ground in front of the power plant doesn't make sense. I think it would look better if you just drew the light coming from the windows on the ground and maybe added a couple of more windows.
The light comes from the windows :P The windows just cannot be seen in the PPfront picture, since they are so high... but I might change that ;D
They look good dude, better than what I could do. :P
I added the PPinside remake... Tell me about it ;)

There are small windows but somehow they are lighting the entire front yard of the power plant! :P
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood that, as you can see... :P Hmm... You're right, the ligth does come out odd.... but looking from the first room the windows seem very big though... ;D
just wanted to say (about the startpoint), if you really want it to look dark, making dark colors wont do much good... try to give them a blue tone... like in the odyseus kent screenshot.
