well a quite simple BG

What do you think?

the castle in the picture bottom of tips are flat and should be roundlike the rest of pillars
The wall looks paper thin add a window sill or something chair has no shadow
I would also move chair and window etc to more the middle of the picture ( a little upper)

the carpets tossle stuff are to straight

use the very same dark texture you used for corners of room in the tiles of the wall behinf the chair

the floor tiles are not consistant.

If thats the kings throne then maybe the chair should have some padding not just solid hard chair.

Thats it from me for now...

Afflict.

Is Sir Mightyknight meant to be that small in comparison to the bg?

And the walls don't look like bricks, more like grey bathroom tiles. The chair is pretty wide, too. And the window has no depth, looks like it was cut into paper.

If some of that is intentional (like mightyknight running around with his sword in his hand), maybe it wouldn't be bad to provide some background info.

Yes mightyknight is supposed to be that small he is the shortest knight other charecters will be taller

How can i improve the walls so they'll look like bricks?

About the chair well... Lets just say the kings having some money troubles (for the last ten years)

well I improved (I think) the window and made some shadows too but the wall still " looks like bathroom tiles"

I think the wall would be more brick-like if you used rectangles instead of squares, and they overlap like so:
|___|___|___|
__|___|___|__

Hope that helps ^_^

another edit TY very much Mashpotato

Hows the shadow better/worse?

I think it would be better if you perhaps scrapped the window and added some other light source (candles, etc.).  It seems a bit strange for the king's throne to be in shadow, he should be more brightly lit, ya know? ^_^  Just my opinion.

If you want to keep the window, I don't think the light hitting the corner like that would result in a shadow that's in a straight line.  Some one else can probably give you better advice on that than I can, though.

I think this is more of what you need to be looking at,

Break down:

What I did..

I looked at your style pretty basic Isometric. (just work a little on porpotions.)

Then I decided ok glass = 1 pixel made it more castle like no king will have a wodframe like that. to peasant like. ;)

Then i redraw your wall using the isometric scales making it more wide. since your woodframe was stiking over the edges of wall??

then found a centre spot, and mounted glass which i then used a tile filter on after coloring some parts.
Then used light function to get really nice effect. (lighting pushed back not to interfere with character walk space.)

and redid cloud ;) as it was in may way when paint over was done..

+- 5 min.

Not that detailed maybe you get the point if not ask me anytime!

I found this for you. There are many like these on the web this is awesome all of them!

KristjanMan

I wish I could make something like that :'(

btw whats a light function?

You can it took me five minutes without any real knowledge or skill just using a simple program..

What program was it?And I drew that back for about an hour and a half...

OUch... I used Paint Shop Pro's Lighting effect and tile effect.

Ok so heres what you do grab pencil paper and plan your BG

Next you take (since your working in isometric perspective!)
you draw your basic shaped the just fill them out please check
the link provided aboce any other need follow the links or
google isometric pixel art.

You need not know anything about vanishing points in isometric...

So you know your lines are always a certain angle pixel diagnoly above pixel.
Now fill in the bases of the objects and complete them. Its fairly simple (too me)
It might not be to you yet. However learn from the tuts provided on the web and
from link provided above and you will not only get better but save yourself time!

Khris

That's not isometric perspective. This is.

The left wall should be completely dark, as there's no way it is hit by light that's coming through the window. In fact, a small window like this would illuminate only a small rectangle on the ground/wall, not most of the room.
And a colored window would color the light shining through it. I'm not entirely sure when glass was invented, afaik they used pig bladders at that time.
Furthermore, medieval castles didn't have huge framed paintings on their walls. If anything, they had tapestries.

The chair is still too wide, and while the leg in the back is at the corner, the one in the front is set back a bit.

I'm sorry if this post sounds über-rude, but I'm too tired and lazy to do a paintover :)

lo_res_man

Well they had glass, but mostly for churches, I never heard of it used in castles. if you wanted colour AND warmth they had these big huge tapestries, but your right it should be darker, moodier, its a CASTLE for bobs sake. its as atmospheric as a cubical. thats how I feel about it. take it or leave it.
