Okay. I'm done with the colors and lineart. This is a desert room in my new desert pirates game :).  Any suggestions before I start shading?
Also I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to shade it...I have never done a background before this one XD And I'm kind of stuck at this part. Any tips? help? You don't have to do anything for me, just say what I have to do or give an example ^^. Oh and one more thing. Should I make it for 256color game or 16/32 bit... It's the last chance to decide on that before shading (and smoothing the lines if 16/32). I can always resize it to 320x240 but it's not a good idea in my opinion ^^"

EDIT:

oh and dont mind the fact that the lines are going through some things that they shouldn't - I'll fix that when I'll change the vector lines into raster layer ^^

EDIT:
Oh and don't worry about so much empty space at the bottom too. I'm gonna give some foreground shadows of ruins of the ship etc.

you can always contact me on my MSN if you wan't to Cheesy (Love making new friends) dashaurge@hotmail.com

With my luck it's a hand granade...

This is a good background but that wreck of a crows nest seems odd. it's at an angle but doesn't appear to be leaning on anything. maybe if you added a rock underneath it as if its fallen over hit the rock and broke in two? oh i'd change the colour of the sky too so you have a variety of different colours rather than the same group of colours on the ground as in the sky (if it's sunset, then add some red's and oranges in there)

also the perspective of the hole compared to the cliff isn't right. we shouldn't be able to see down the hole like we do.  so rather than this: O  draw this () but turn it 90 degrees obviously

I think that it's almost done. I fixed few things mentioned by acemonkey (beside the sky - because I want to have a lot of similiar colors to get the player in the right mood for the game). Also I decided on 320x240 resolution. I hope that it was a good choice. Please make an opinion and tell me what to change/add/shade or anything :3

I think this is a really cool background and I think you've done a great job of detailing it.

The only thing that sort of bothers me is the fact that the separation between the bottom of the cliff face and the ground doesn't read very clearly to me. I would firstly raise it up, so that all of the things in the foreground aren't so close to the side of the cliff, and then shade where the two planes meet to show that they're actually perpendicular to each other.

Can't I just lower the things on the ground instead?

Sure, that would work out the same. I just figured you had all that space at the bottom for a reason, like to put characters or objects in, or something. But sure.Ã,  :=

It's just some space for foreground shadows of some destroyed ship parts etc...but It's a little too much of it anyway :)

I think it looks great. How did you manage that sand texture, if I might ask?

Oh it was nothing, really :) just an airbrush with density=1. I sprayed one layer of the sand-shadow color and other one after that with sky color directly on the sand. sometimes I make a new small image and make those sprays on transparent background and then use it as a pattern :)

EDIT: and all this with 17 colors XD my first try at backgrounds like that. I'm kind of happy with it but I still wish I was as good as NailDnuma...

I definately prefer the one without the foreground shadows. Those make me think of MST3K. (for the uninformed, 2 robots and a person that watched bad films and mocked them as a running commentary).

In fact I felt compelled to make this to show what I mean.  :P

That is the awesomest thing ever. You just made my day. Wait, scrap that. You just made my week!

@Dig:
I don't mean to complain, but does that man have 3 feet?

@kiddie

Okay okay I will take the one without shadows

@haddas

No he does not :) he's a werewolf - he has a tail - this might have confused you. Do you think that I should erase it? and do you see anything else that is confusing?
