Heh, never thought I'd do this, but here it goes, I was practicing making the sprite that (in theory) may be used in a game and I want people criticise it ;)

Some sort of military or policeman from the "third world" country.

Jim Reed

Argh, pillow shading!
I'll try to do an edit tomorrow when I sober up.

OH NO! *hits keyboard with his head*  :P

I fixed shading a little.

Chicky

it's a pretty good sprite Crimson, nice and clean.

I would play around with the colours a bit, then rotate the head and legs clockwise (from a birds eye view) a little to match up with his belly. Try having the crotch where that button line ends, the legs look shifted to the right atm.

I would play a game with this style of art :)

At risk of kicking off some horrific debate; Define 'third world'.

Regardless, it's got nice definition, although you could do with using the shading to define the shape a little, particularly at the joints.

3x:

Violet Sorcerer, do not make me edit the triple-sized sprite (As I tried, and didn't understand what was the problem for a minute there).
Use [ img width="pic width times three" height="pic height times three" ] "pic url" [ /img ] like I just did.
Now, Purple Magician, or whatever your name is, =P, I've taken the liberty of adding a few details, but the most important thing is the re shading and shrunkening of the belly a bit. Do not get distracted by the decals.

You'll probably get someone else to correct my bad colouring and a few perspective points, while my hangover subsides. =(

On a side note, Redish Warlock, the sprite is really nice!

EDIT: caught a few stray pixels.

I wanted to edit sprite a little and post a new version but then I considered that changes are too small to display an extra pic; I am just playing with hue and saturation now, I have another sprite made for same story and I am trying to make them look closer, same style.
Anyway, thanks mr. Reed, I appreciate your help fixing his belly and also defining opposite part of his cap (I couldn't figure how it should be visible with current perspective).
Maybe I'll try to make some animation with this sprite now.

A small poor country ruled by the corrupt and fat Shah Emir El Presidente, full of peasants, red partisans, good CIA agents fight bad CIA agents involved in drug trafficking, magic carpets, snake charmers.... that sort of stuff  ;D

Jim Reed

Hahaha lol "mr.Reed"

I ain't much older than you probably Crimson Wizard, and was just grumpy from Saturday night. Excusse my lame attempts for a joke to your name. Please post an edit of this sprite, as I can learn as much from you as you can from me.

So was mine attempt  ;D

Eh, seriously, I sometimes don't know how better call people. Full name? Last name? Mr. Someone may sound polite and fun at the same time ;)

Jim Reed

Ok, good then.

Not that I'd fear THAT.

In fact my other sprite was very simple, I made a screenshot of Ben Chandler's "Awakener" and used his character as a reference ;)

Also, I am currently trying to draw a soldier to accompany that fat officer above. Making his head/body proportions look nice took me some time, and also I am rather bothered by his relatively "plain" view.
Following is an unfinished drawing, just because you ask for more :)

Oh, yes and I slightly edited officer's sprite, lowering saturation a bit and also decreased his forehead height by 1 pixel to give him more "flat" look.

Jim Reed

Why don't I have such nice ideas for outfits? =(

They look good, the turban guy has some mighty potential, but he seems a bit on the tall side, comparing him to the first officer sprite. I might rip off those clothing styles for one of my future projects (top secret stuff here =) )

Ha, you see, you shold've been afraid =P

If you'd like I can do an edit of the turban guy.
Anyhow..., cheers!

Wonkyth

Nah, that guy looks that right height.
It's just that fat guys should look short.  :P
"But with a ninja on your face, you live longer!"

Gahhh! The pillow shading returns!

Well this one's got a nice look about it, although it is, as you say, very "flat".
This is mainly due to the fact that he has a fairly 'rectangular' look about him, and isn't shaded. This is especially noticeable when he is standing next to the Officer, a far more round-looking sprite which has significant shading.

Jim Reed

Nay, you miss-understood Scarab, thoose last two sprites were sketches, just for show. I'm pretty sure that their quality will significantly improve the next time we see them. He didn't wanna publish thoose, but he did it as a favor to me.

Yes, there is pillow shading, the sholders are not aligned and so forth, but have faith, I'll bet you they will be much better iin the game.  ;)

Crimson Wizard

LOL, thanks for belief in my skills, Mr. Reed  ;D
Actually I was busy with other things lately, so no more updates yet, sorry.
