Title: Blues: Solos 'n Basslines!
Post by: Phemar on Mon 08/11/2010 07:48:48
Download the track here (http://www.mediafire.com/?82zn3d28xvx3l3d)!

It's a short blues solo in E minor, what I was looking for is if anyone could help me make the bassline more bluesy, or do you think it's fine like it is? Also if the drumbeat doesn't sound right feel free to critique it :D

Here's (http://www.mediafire.com/?zsib12eg9xubio9) a midi version if anyone was interested to see which notes were being played.

Thanks!

The solo is nice enough but I dont like the drums.. far too mechanical.

Post a rendered version without the drums and I might try and play over the top ^_^

Well I think if the drums are midi, you should put a bit more lenght (at least that's what I use in ReDrum in Reason to make seem a bit more "real"). The bass also could use a bit more attack, or at least release.

About the actual bassline, I guess the most basic thing would be E7, the flat 7 and the octave higher root always scream blues to me, and it's really simple (E B D E). I'm not really good at picking out notes by ear, what are you playing except the root and the 5th?

Now here's a part where I try something on my bass and try to actually help, but yesterday I got the worst papercut ever and basically half my thumb is one big cut.  :-\

Pfft, wimp.

While we were on tour our bassist got his fore and middle fingers on his left hand caught in the van door and thought he wouldnt be able to play that night due to the pain.

But we found some Performa condoms in our drummers cymbal bag (the ones with the anaesthetic numbing stuff on them to make you.. umm.. last longer) and we smeared that stuff all over his fingers.

That night we played the best show of the tour ^_^

1. okay, that is kind of a cool story and too much information at the same time...and aren't you the drumer?!  ;D
2. it's a mix between letting it heal sooner and annoying pain of skin splitting...and plus I'm not getting paid for it, so shush  :P
3. ...just so it's a list

Hey Calin here's (http://www.mediafire.com/?wl9nw5k00zxw8dd) a version without drums :)

anian, it's all MIDI, I did it in Guitar Pro so I can't really edit the samples :/ The bass is actually playing root, 4th, root, 5th the whole way throughout. I'll try adding some 7ths in, see how it sounds :D

I don't like the sound of the guitar, sounds too artificial, but the melody is fine.
And don't forget about the train, you can't write a blues whitout trains.
