I tried that technique a dude posted on the forums a while ago, and i want you guys to say something about the result:

Kinda Realistic, Kinda Watercolorish looking. I give it a thumbs 'good'.

I prefer the FoY style clouds, but that one is nice too..

can anyone show me the FoY style clouds? please? an URL? you got me curious man.

EDIT: I made a new one. I don't know what to say about it. I tried to make a nice smugdy layer on top, but it was harder than i thought:

i don't really see a way one can equate the two... one is limited palette and the other is millions of colours

i'd suggest actually putting the clouds in a scene, they'd look much better and it would be much easier to comment on them

at the moment they are just isolated offwhite blobs to me and not really clouds

some mountains or something mayhaps?
