Title: C & C on another background *sigh* :P
Post by: Matt Frith on Sun 13/07/2003 16:17:35
I'm a bit stuck on this background, as it looks a bit bare and devoid on anything interesting.   8)

I would appreciate some ideas to make it look any better.  And i am aware it is greyscale, its because its a cave and it appears differently in the game :P

its cool, but maybe a bit too grey, adn the guy/mumy/hobo/skeleton is too small, or i just can't see him very well.

Good stuff:
I think it looks cool actually ... I look forward to seeing it in color.  Please post it when you have it in color?   ::)

Critiques:
- The perspective of the wall in the top/left hallway looks a little off ...
- The dark grey in the top/right background ... will that be colored a certain way?  It looks 'empty'.  Another cliff or something back there might be the only thing missing.
- Throw some more shading pixels into the skeleton because right now he looks a little 'lumpy'.
- The cracks in the walls might look better if they were straight lines with jagged angles on them.  But I'm not sure about that one.

keep up the good work!!

Maybe a shaft of light appearing from the top would do the trick with maybe bits of fallen rock ?? or water dripping from somewhere.. any plants in the cave.. just a couple of suggestions

Hey

The outlay's nice, but it looks like the contrast on my monitor's gone haywire.
It all seems to be light grey, if some bits were darker like the distance bit on the top right, and the parts under the bridge, it would look better.

Also, the dead guy.. he does seem small, but you may want him ickle, so I don't really know.  It depends on the character's size.

^_^ thanks guys. I just want to point out something:  It will mainly be grey but some of the colours actually appear different game. Must be something to do with number of colours.

I like the idea of a bit of dripping water, maybe i could use an animating backgrounds :P.

Thanks again, keep the critique coming.

it kinda looks as if it's being viewed through nightvision goggles, because the only apparent lightsource is the opening but the entire room is bright...
the only real criticism i have is the swirly lines in the wall, they should me more jagged unless it's a smooth damp cave...

Looking good. Burning torches might add to the atmosphere.

I agree about drippling water and torches.

Actually I think the cracks look kinda nice curved, but maybe seeing them different will change my mind..

Hey there,

You could add compository depth to the piece by simply defining a strong light source/s - then reflecting that throughout the room. At present you seem to define light by the type of material used (brick walls, natural stone walls etc) - if you define light by a light source rather - you will find instantaneous depth! :)
