I was asked to write a traditional Caribbean style raggae tune for a game project. I'm not sure if I nailed it though. Does it strike you as boring? Does it need a more pronounced lead melody?

I think it sounds great. I don't got any constructive critism but I've at least a suggestion: why not add steeldrums to it. Steeldrums is something typical for Caribbean. Just a thought though, the music works much fine without it.

Andail

For background music it's terrific. A game soundtrack needn't be more pronounced than that.
Very well arranged.

There is actually a some steel drumming going on in there, but it's sort of "hidden". I should bring it out a bit!

Hmmm, I can hear the steel drumming fine. If you bring it up, only a little bit.

I would turn down the organ bubbling, and add a reggae guitar skank (if not already then turn it up).

Do you have bongos? I can hear some percussion happening way back there, but it could fill it out if you had some up front.

By the way, what reverb do you use? It sounds fantastic!! Actually, this song sounds fantastic!

Here are two versions of a new track for the same project. The first version has an acoustic guitar playing during the second part of the track. I sort of like it, but i can't seem to find room for it (it gets kinda messy). Any suggestions? Should I go without it? Mixing advice?

Any other feedback is welcome!

Cheers!

Sorry Greg! I actually missed your reply the first time around. The reverb is the standard one that comes with reason (hmmm, could be the RV7000 with the FilmScore patch also... I'll check!). Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Oz, sounds great!

I love your sounds! Really!
Great warm feel to it!

For my own feeling,
I'd try to give some more groove with it with the bass-guitar.
It's a bit flat at some point.
My keyboard-teacher used to say: Bass is the most important thing of reggae.

Love your music

Thanks n3tgraph!

I agree the bass line is a little flat in the second track. I actually "sketched" it briefly as a guideline for the arrangement, but I never got around to embroider it. It needs some work, even though I don't want it to stand out too much.

Here is a slightly tweaked version of the caribbean ballad track:

This is awesome work, it would be "boring" to listen to alone, but in a game it would be perfect - not too intrusive and ideal to work alongside visuals.

Hey oz! Where did you get that "scratchy" guitar that sounds in "coconut_greek"? It's great! total reggae! :D
