Hello, I've just been playing around in three dimensions. I had a go at modelling cartoonish eyes with that charming pixar-like glow. I don't really have a game in mind, I'm just playing around with character.
Here's an eye (drag and drop the link in your address bar to view):

And here's a simple character using the eyes.

I suspect my monitor isn't calibrated so they may be a little dark. Aside from that, what do you think?
The first says it can't be displayed because it contains errors. The second is a tripod picture...
EDIT: I like it...very pixar-ish, and that's good. The character looks nice and simple, though I think that was done purposefully.
Good work.
Looks cute :)
It reminds me of a charactor on Monsters inc :)
The eye looks awesome! The little fellow wearing them looks like he was made in a rush with quite noticeable less detail. Still looking nice...
i cannot see either image. they both just say "image hosted by tripod"

Sorry mate ... just couldn't resist :)
Looks real nice!
One crit: you can try making the eyeball a bit more glossy, maybe raise the spacularity or something, it just looks a bit too dry to be an eye.
And a question, did you read this (http://www.comet-cartoons.com/toons/3ddocs/eyerigging/) tutorial?
If you didn't, you should, it's great.
Loads of other tutorials on that site as well.
Cartoony? It looks a bit too realistic. But yes, It's pretty cute.
I like the eye!
Its got nice depth, it doesnt just look like a ball with a blue circle painted on :D
Thanks for your input!
A few specific responses...
mätzyboy: The character was made quickly, I'm going to try and tweak him a little - make him look simple without looking simplistic.
Highwaygal: I didn't follow that tutorial, but I have read it and a number of similar ones before. My eye is modelled like the Adam Baroody tutorial that site links to. Baroody has a nicer iris map than me. I think you're right that it looks a little dry. I'll work on it.
Increator: I'm surprised you think it's too realistic, the iris is far too large for a human eye. What is it about it that makes it look less cartoony?
Hotspot: Thanks, that's because the iris is curved inwards.

Well, for me, cartoony eye means a weird shape and simple black at the middle. It's far more advanced, this eye of yours. But I really don't think this matters much, because for an eye, It's a cool one.

Dammit. I mean seriously. what is it with me. read then poste read then post. need a tatoo or something
those look really nice. i game in this "pixarish" style would be wicked.
I like the character a lot, the lighting adds quite a bit to it so you don't notice how simple it is. Really cool. Like the hat, too. ;)
It looks great, but it definatly needs to be in the head with some small eyelids. I cant help but go "Mike Wasoski!"
Its amazing how you made a character around the eyes. good job
