Hey, that looks really nice! The only thing I would suggest is not using outlines on the black foreground. Otherwise I like it!

I like it.  Now to fill it with things to click on.
And Cat's right about the outlines on the foreground, they needn't be there.

That's a great room! Question: is the exit sign lit? There's this brighter highlight around it, thought maybe that meant it was a lit sign.

Yep, really nice!
If you want anti-aliasing like in DOTT or Sam&Max, draw the room at twice the size, then scale it down. It looks like you've used only the line and fill tool, so doubling the size won't double the work ;)

i'm trying to don't use anti-alising but line and fill, anyway in some thing (like shadows) i used a little anti-alising.

Here is want i think could be the final version ;)

Oh my god, that's the way this is done??? I was fiddling with photoshop and gimp for quite a long time to get this type of antialiasing and now you tell me it is THAT easy? I have to try this immediately!

Heh.  Hey it's looking really good now that something is in the room.  Must admit I like how it looks, a lot, nice job.  Adding anything else? maybe a rug?  The plant I see, what's the item on the table supposed to be?

Looks nice, but...

The shadows on the wall and floor have aa, whilst the rest of the bg does not. It's not consistant, but easily fixed if you are using layers.

Don't use pixel outlines if you intend to downscale.

here is how it looks in game, now an off-topic... by now I have no good ideas for a GUI system

That looks really good. Never been able to do cartoonish backgrounds myself but that is excellent.

I love this background, but I really don't like the non-anti-aliased  lines. Window, the desk, and the bush are all fine the way they are, but the door and the walls and shadows should be anti-aliased.

GUI isn't bad, but what would pick be used for? Take?

I don't think you're far from it from the sample picture - but hey it's grass!  I mean it looks like grass, and it's pretty close to what you're going for in my opinion, nicely done.

I like your art a lot! But may I suggest changing the color of light coming from the windows to yellow or similar. And add a small flag to the top of couple of towers and other small detail. Then you'd be set.

This is *so* trippy...take a gander at this background I drew over a year ago...

I guess there's only so many ways to draw a castle on a hilltop in the dark. :)

Hi all again :)

this is a part of a background i'm working on

the problem is the grass between the gate and the hills (by now its a bad gradient)

c&c needed :)

Why dont you use smooth gradient from the dark to shiny green? Maybe that is the whole secret...
