Diversity is divine!

Awesomel, although I'm not sure where your lights are coming from, since the door is blacked out(dark) and there appears to be no torches or anything...

Hey, Sektor, did you know that if you put the link to your picture between
Code: ags
[img]picture link[/img]
you can get them to diplay on the forums
For example, if you would write
Code: ags
[img]http://users.volja.net/zagar41/klemen/cave.gif[/img]
you'd get:

For more BBcode information check out here: BBCode and smileys reference

As for the background, it looks really good, keep it up.

Really excellent!!!

The only problem I see with it is the door, which looks as though it is in the back wall...and on closer inspection has a number of other problems...there is no corner at the meeting of the walls, the perspective is off, there is an extra edge in the door stones, I tried to fix it all with this edit.

Sektor 13

yes, doors are nice that way...

Sektor 13

#7
ok i fix it, this should be final one, except the fire, which i will add later...

Pod

It's lovely!
How long did it take you?
How did you get the rock effect?

Sektor 13

it doesn't take than much time, maybe 3 - 4 hours (i didn't make it all at oence), rock effect as follows: i use PSP 9, because i don't think you can do the same thing with psp7 and i dont know for photoshop neither. You choose a color of the roc, lets say gray, make a new layer and draw an object with only one color and fill it wiht paint (same gray one) now selec lighten/darken brush, SIZE -1 , OPACITY- 30 or 40. Now you must imagine how the light will be (where the rock is darker, and where lighter). Then you use left mouse click to (lighten) and start moving mouse horizontaly and slowly move down (or up, if you started from the bottom). You use right click for darkening the rock.
I will try to add some step by step screens later.

I'd really like to see this tutorial :)

Sektor 13

Ok here it goes :P

First: Draw a any shape you like (stone come in all different shapes :D ), and fill it with a gray or little yellow color.

Second: I use PSP 9, because the "lighten and darken " effect are much easier to make (in comparisson to PSP 7) i don't know for Photoshop, i don't use it.
Select Lighten/Darken tool, add size to 1 and opacity to 35 (you can use higher opacity too).
In my picture I will lighten the right side and darken the left one. First select your shape with magic wand tool, so you won't effect the white background or make rock as a layer and lock it.
Select lighten/darken brush and start, move to the top of the rock and hold mouse button     down, and start making zig-zags towards downside (lighten) and same for the left side (darken).

Use some lighten brush on the left side to and viceversa (you can change opacity here to apply more or less dark/light. You darken the bottom of the rock and all around it, because rock are normaly closer to the humans in the center (or at least my is :D) and thats why it is brighter in the middle and darker on the sides.

You can now rise the opacity to about 50, and go trought all areas again. I aplied more light on some parts of the rock, it all depends from where the lightning comes. (my comes from right to left as the black pointer shows).

Ok when you are done with that, use the SOFTEN BRUSH, size 2 and opacity 20. Soften whole rock.

You can darken the sides of the rock so it look like it is more round. Use darken tool, size 3-4 and opacity 40 or 50.

I added black background and darken the rocks sides even more. You can use a SHARPEN tool in the some parts of the rock too make it look more "rocky" :D (size 10, opacity about 30)...

Woila, i really hope this makes any sense :D ???

Sektor 13

here is another, ice stuff :P

i still don't know how to make good cliffs/rocks... :'(

Nacho

Call me bastard for suggesting changing lots of the work you done, but I'd make the textures on the cliff "verticals" and not "horizontals"... That's the way they did in Monkey Island...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Pft!

I think it looks great. Its a really nice style.  8)

Hey, suggestions are always welcome, more heads know more :D
Yes i thought that to, to make cliff textures vertical, maybe i will use a combinatin /vertical/horizontal..

Evil

Actually the horizontal lines are more correct. A rock formation like that results from constant water hitting apon it. So most likely in this case, the ocean, which hits horizontal. However, places like under the bridge and under where it attaches to the wall would look much better vertical.

Also watch how you are working your colors. I like the reflective blue, but it isn't reflecting on the under side of the bridge. And your light source, I would imagine, isnt blue either, but a yellow. So along the brightest highlights from the sun, I would add some yellow-green.
