Can someone help me fix the wall texture? I think I went a bit overboard. I started with the middle colour and added the light bits. It looked sort of plain, so I added the darker parts. I had used photoshop's rock texture before that, but that didn't look so great either. Does anyone have any rock texturing technique that they will be willing to share?
Other C&c will also be appreciated of course. I realise that the BG is kind of empty at the moment
I tried a paintover. Don't know it it's better.

The cave is amazing, make shadows for the bed and chair....
Why not take a look at a photo of a real cave wall, just to see what it's like?
If you wish to have shadows, you need to establish where the lightsource is, and add shadows accordingly.
And no, DustDevil, you version is not better...I don't know what you have done really...sprayed some glitter on the wall?
my suggestion would be: less smooth curves, less contrast, and more randomness.
Add a light source, then use that to figure out where the fissures and cracks are in the wall
If it's someone's house then it's ok to smooth out the walls if you want, since it's not just some random cave. Like the walkway that spirals around the inside of the room, that's cut from the stone and if it they can do that I'm sure they'd smooth out the walls here and there, maybe carve some bookshelves or a potty
Everyone seems to have more specific critiques, but what stands out to me is the path. It's going up, but it doesn't appear to; so my brain tries to fix and it looks weird. Am I explaining this right? Like one of those images like the stairs that lead
to nowhere.
Maybe darkening or shadowing the cave wall on the lower level would fix it.

It IS supposed to be manmade, so I suppose smooth walls are more appropriate. I resorted to a little blurred noise to make the wall look less plain. Is there a better way to do it? The light source is somewhere high up above the picture (maybe a hole it the wall?). I darkened the lower part to so that the path does not play tricks on your eyes. There is a potty (the hole you see through the door), and I like the idea about the shelf but how would I put it? Will it have a flattened surface like the path with the wall extending to make the base, or will the whole thing be carved separately?
Paintovers more than welcome
The first one dosn't look like a cave wall to me. What it does look like, however, is some kinda of Forest or vinework (if it were green, of course).
As for your second one, why is the top part lighter? Is that where the light source is?
I suppose that is what it looks like. That's why I wanted to change it. Is the edit better? Yes, the light source is up above the pic, like I said. I thought of giving the shadows the weird shape to show that the wall is curved. HELP! Anyone? My pic can't be perfect, can it?
Well, I took a try at a paintover for your pic.

Lots of shading and definition on the walls; I then used a texture for marble, and I filled it in as a texture only at a very low opacity till it got some groovy textures. I also added some stalagtites to the ceiling, as well as smoothed off at the edges on everything. I also added some textures, using shading and colors, on the desk and bed. It took about 30 minutes, I think.

Do you have a screenshot of the image before you applied the mabrle texture, please?
Uh, sorry, no I don't. I did this all really quick, and I didn't save a layered version of the picture.

umm...Blackthorne, I don't have the marble texture, but I liked the look you gave the pic so much that I stole the wall from your edit. I hope you don't mind. When (and if) my game is ever finished, you will be credited for it. Is that ok?
Sure Babar - no problem at all. You don't even really have to credit me, just a "Special Thanks to" is all. If you have anything else you may need help with, just ask. I'd be glad to help out if you want it.
