Title: Cavepunk Demo feedback-criticism
Post by: h3adlin3 on Sat 31/07/2010 02:05:00
Hello all,

I'm looking for feedback/criticism on the demo for my new game Cavepunk. See the thread here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=39346.0 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=39346.0)
You can download the demo here:
Cave Punk Demo (http://www.h3adlin3.com/games/Cave_Punk_Demo.zip)
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

I'm gonna be blunt: the styles are clashing. There's crisp sprites mixed with blurry backgrounds, and the font doesn't fit at all. Not sure how WiP this is, but you definitely need to use a highres font.

Ideally, you'd find a way to paint the sprites using the same method as the backgrounds, just thinner lines and a bit more contrast. AGS supports alpha channels if you use 32bit and PNGs, so the technical side shouldn't be a problem.

I'm with Khris on this. You've got smooth, blurry BGs, but your sprites are very pixelated and look a bit rough by contrast. Also, without colour, it's all very confusing to look at. The last thing you want is to make a game that's hard on the eyes.
