Title: C&C (First) half-way Decent sprite (Recolor)
Post by: The Suitor on Thu 21/02/2008 09:10:11
I've been dabbling in AGS for a while. I think this is my best sprite so far. Please C&C and paint overs are always welcome!

This isn't bad at all!

The lighting is a little off ... makes it look like the light source is located somewhere around her stomach area (as the breasts are illuminated from below) however, the arms on either side of the breasts are shadowed where they should be lit if the breasts are lit as they are.

Trouble areas:
- The sides of the breasts are squared off.
- The shins/calves area is a little blocky as well and the shading is weird
- The hands are in need of some help

I really like the face/hair (though the cheek hi-lights are a little off).  I know it seems like I'm nit-picking ... but I only do that if the sprite/image is promising :)

The legs look a bit strange to me but other than that (and the few lighting issues Darth mentioned) it's a very good sprite. :)

Did some experimenting with shading. Flared the dress a little, added a belt. 'Tried' to fix hands and legs. Shaded cheeks a little differently... Oh! And rounded the breasts some.  :)

EDIT: Shaded the legs somewhat better

Diggin' the edits, ben! I like the smaller breast (seeing as how she's supposed to be a teenager). Shading looks alot better too.

Glad I could give you some ideas. :)

Took some of Ben's ideas  ;D

..and I worked on the up view of the sprite. But I'm having real trouble drawing the side view. I might need some help on getting a side view drawn.

EDIT: Got the side view looking slightly satisfactory.

Ben's edit looks great, except that her weird shaped breasts turned into half orbs attached to her armpits. I have no art skills whatsoever, but here's a one-minute edit to illustrate how I'd shade her upper torso to give her natural hooters instead of cheap silicone implants.

I also moved the aforementioned protrusions down a pixel and assumed the dress isn't supposed to be plastered to her body. Original on the left for comparison.

The biggest problems with the side view I see are the ear that shouldn't probably be (fully) visible as it's under the hair in the front view and the knee that is too low. She also has a weird shaped rump, but I'll let someone more talented provide a paint-over.

Covered the ear up Looks much better, thanks Tube!  And, now that I look at it, the knee is a little too low.   I was planning to change the breasts some more too (since it was a dead rip-off of ben's edit. ;D) But I still like all the advice everyone has given, it's helped me out a lot.

This is actually the most interaction I've had working on a sprite. It's promising, and I might make my first--public--game out of this.

EDIT: Also rounded the chin.

Sorry about the double post....  :'(

Raised the knees. And recolored the dress. But, I can't make up my mind between dipping my chicken in bbq or honey mustard  :P  So...

red or blue?

Difficult choice - personally I'd go with red, but why let us choose what colour to make her?

Ps - half orbs are sexy. The television told me it is true ;).

Both colours are fine. The red one will probably look better on some backgrounds and the blue one on others. Pick whichever you like best.

Haha, yeah. Must be true if the Allknowing Telly said so.
