Are you sure this is a sprite? I mean it's 400 pixels high, that's way too much for any resolution supported by AGS. This means:

- it takes tou many times longer to draw
- it will occupy too much memory/disk
- it will look hideous when scaled down

You should draw your sprite at the maximum size it will ever appear in the game. For most games, this is about 1/5-1/4 of screen height. (Thus 40-50 pixels high for 320x200, 90-120 pixels high for 640x480), or even less. (Indy from LucasArts, for example, is 50 pixels tall).

I higly recommend starting at 320x200 or 320x240, because its 4-times less pixels, four times less work, than hi-res.

I can see you started with a pencil sketch and scanned it. That's not a bad idea, but you need to scale it down radically. Also this particular pose will probably not work as a neutral standing image.

The head:
Now I know the head is intentionally big. I've seen children's animated movies that used big heads aswell. However, it might be better if you attempt a more realistic anatomy first. (First learn the rules, then bend them. Those movie artists knew very well what they were doing...)

Not necessarely, if it's drawn with a vectorial tool.

AGS supports vectors?

Unless you mean several sprites for far away and up close.

I guess he means resizing in a vector application before importing. I would so loooove a vector-based adventure game engine. Flash doesn't have enough street cred to switch to.

call me wino wallaby, but "adventure game" and "street cred" in the same post strike me as funny ;D

Crazy, Ok well heres how I see it plebeo the sprite is good and with more practice you can start doing web comics!

However this will be very hard to implement into a adventure game... as is.

So heres some tips for you. Think about what the resolution is of the game your planning, then take about a 3rd of the height of that and make it your charadcter size.  Eg 320 X 200

Your character height should be about 60-70 ok rather go with 60, IMO.

Now on the sprite it self. Simply your shapes, so build the character like you would using llets say clay or something this is forcing you to remember that there is MASS this being done makes you think of would the "back leg" look as big as it does having the same mass?

Also remember the further things move away from the eye the smaller we perceive them to be... they also start getting a greyer shade to them this usually in painting etc.

This is a great pic, and pixeling this great concept pic would be easier cause you have fixed "measurements" being the pixels. So try and pixel the pic in the required space you have in the selection of your game resolution!

I am not going to critic on the pic as there are some flaws according to perspective and general drawing style... But the character has a certain personality to it that I like. Must be the Goatie!

I would however not give him a missing tooth add a scar maybe scars = character ;)

Your next step should be learning shading, but first understand you shapes!
